Cyber Crime Unit Kargil Conducts Awareness Programme for GDC Kargil students at Cyber crime unit Baroo, Kargil

Kargil, September 25, 2026:The Cyber Crime Unit Kargil organised a short cybercrime awareness programme for the students of Government Degree College (GDC) Kargil on September 25, 2026, to sensitise students about various forms of cybercrime and ways to protect from online fraud and cyber threats.

SHO Cyber Crime Unit Kargil, Iftikhar Hussain, addressed the students and explained the different types of cybercrimes and methods commonly used by cybercriminals to target individuals. He highlighted the importance of maintaining online safety, protecting personal information, using secure passwords and remaining cautious while using digital platforms.

He further advised students to promptly report any suspicious or fraudulent cyber activity through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (Citizen Portal) or by approaching the Cyber Crime Unit Kargil for assistance.

The SHO also encouraged the students to share cyber safety information with their family members, friends and the wider community so that greater awareness can be created and people can collectively stay protected from cybercrime.

The programme aimed to promote responsible and safe digital practices among students and strengthen awareness about cyber safety in the community.

Government Degree College Kargil Bids Farewell to Transferred Faculty Members

Government Degree College Kargil organized a farewell ceremony on 23rd September 2026 to honour and acknowledge the valuable services and contributions of the Assistant Professors who have been transferred to various colleges.
The event was organized through the efforts of the College Staff Secretary, Mr Sayed Mustafa Kamal, and was attended by Prof. (Dr.) Amjad Ali Abassi, Principal, Government Degree College Kargil, along with faculty members and staff of the college.
The faculty members being transferred include Mr Mohd Ali Shabbir (English), Ms Hakeema Banoo (English), Ms Zahra Bee (English), Mr Shabbir Hussain (Commerce), Mr Manzoor Hussain (Commerce), Mr Gulzar Hussain (History), Mr Mumtaz Ahmad (Physics), Dr Abdul Hamid (EVS), and Ms Kaniz Fatima (Education).
During the farewell ceremony, the outgoing faculty members were felicitated in recognition of their dedicated services to the institution and their contribution towards the academic and overall development of the students. They were presented with traditional Khataks and Certificates of Appreciation as a mark of respect and gratitude.
Speaking on the occasion, the Principal, Prof. (Dr.) Amjad Ali Abassi, appreciated the sincere efforts and professional contributions of the transferred faculty members during their tenure at Government Degree College Kargil. He acknowledged their role in strengthening the academic environment of the college and expressed his gratitude for their commitment to teaching and student development.
The College Staff Secretary, Mr Sayed Mustafa Kamal, also expressed appreciation for the valuable services rendered by the faculty members and highlighted their contribution to the collegial and academic environment of the institution.
The ceremony concluded on a warm and cordial note, with faculty members and staff expressing their best wishes to the transferred teachers for a successful and fulfilling tenure at their new places of posting.

Administrative Secretary Housing & Urban Development UT Ladakh Visited GDC Kargil:
Shri. Arava Gopi Krishna IAS, Administrative Secretary Housing &Urban Development and Transport Department UT Ladakh visited Government Degree College Kargil on 23rd September 2026.
Principal GDC Kargil Dr. Amjad Ali Abassi along with faculty members received Shri. Gopi Krishna IAS at the college main gate with traditional khataqs. The guest was escorted by College NCC Cadets towards Principal office chamber where principal gave a detailed overview of the college development and academic activities.
The guest witnessed model exhibition stalls by in the college campus by various departments and appreciated the presentation of students at the stalls regarding different science models and apparatus being showcased.
Shri. Gopi Krishna had a detailed visit of college skill centres including Traditional Hand Embroidery,Graphic Design, Beauty Therapy, Yoga and Housekeeping &Guest Service Associate. He appreciated the college administration for effectively running these sector skill courses in the college to make students skilled alongside their academic excellence.
Shri. Gopi Krishna addressed the students in the college seminar hall where a large gathering of students were present besides the faculty members.
A group of NSS Volunteers presented a beautiful welcome song followed by the guest’s address. In his address Shri. Gopi Krishna urged the students to practice proper meditation to do away with negative thoughts and enhance mindfulness and better focus.
The event concluded with a more engaging interactive session with the guest. Many students asked questions related to IAS journey,Basic motivation and distractions in studies.
The guest along with principal shared their insights while answering the questions from students.
College Principal presented souvenir to the guest . Mr Nasir Ud Din Khafee (AP English) presented vote of thanks on behalf of the college whereas Khusnood Banoo (5th sem) student conducted the proceedings of the event.

GDC Kargil Student Bashrat Ali Dyaloo Emerges Runner up at State-Level Volleyball Tournament
Kargil: Government Degree College Kargil is proud to announce that Bashrat Ali Dyaloo Ali, B.A. 1st Semester, Roll No. 182, was the only volleyball player from GDC Kargil selected to represent Drass District at the State-Level Volleyball Tournament held at Drass under the Sports Day and Youth Engagement Programme.
The Drass team remained unbeaten throughout the final, defeating Leh, changthang,sham and Nubra in the league stage, followed by a 2–0 victory over sham in the semi-final. Final match was played between Drass District and Kargil District.
The Principal, faculty and Department of Sports & Physical Education congratulated Bashrat Ali Dyaloo for his outstanding performance and for bringing laurels to Government Degree College Kargil.

Kargil: Government Degree College Kargil is proud to announce that Shahid Ali, B.A. 1st Semester, Roll No. 240, was the only volleyball player from GDC Kargil selected to represent Kargil District at the State-Level Volleyball Tournament held at Drass under the Sports Day and Youth Engagement Programme.
The Kargil team remained unbeaten throughout the tournament, defeating Leh, Drass and Nubra in the league stage, followed by a 2–0 victory over Zanskar in the semi-final. In the final, Kargil defeated Drass 2–0 to emerge as the champions.
The Principal, faculty and Department of Sports & Physical Education congratulated Shahid Ali for his outstanding performance and for bringing laurels to Government Degree College Kargil.

Psychology Department Conducts Field Visit to Suru Valley

Kargil, 18 September 2026: The Department of Psychology, Govt. Degree College, Kargil successfully organized a one-day academic field visit to Suru Valley, Sankoo Kargil, for students of the 1st , 3rd , and 5th semesters as part of their curricular and experiential learning activities.

The field visit focused on studying climate anxiety and psychological responses among local residents, particularly in the context of the recent flash-flood event in the Suru Valley area. Students collected qualitative information through semi-structured interviews and field observations from residents of few villages.

The visit was supervised by Ms. Nayeema Manzoor and Mr. Mohd Mustafa, Assistant Professors, Department of Psychology. Upon reaching the field locations, students were divided into groups of three to facilitate systematic interaction and data collection.

The activity provided students with practical exposure to interviewing, observation, qualitative data collection, community interaction and understanding psychological responses to environmental and disaster-related experiences.

The Department expressed appreciation to the college administration, local residents, and students for their cooperation and active participation in making the field visit successful.

GDC Kargil Concludes Three-Day Entrepreneurship Awareness Programme

Kargil, 19 September 2026: Government Degree College (GDC) Kargil successfully concluded a three-day Entrepreneurship Awareness Programme (EAP) under Enterprising Ladakh (EL),with the support of the Department of Higher Education, UT Ladakh, held from 17 to 19 September 2026.

The programme aimed to promote entrepreneurship among students through sessions on startup opportunities, innovation, business ideas, branding, marketing, government schemes and business model development.The programme was coordinated by the Enterprising Ladakh Kargil Office, with Dr. Zahoor Ahmad Paray, Faculty, EDII, and Ms. Kaneez Fatima, Project Officer, as resource persons.

The concluding day featured an Idea Pitching Session, where students presented their entrepreneurial ideas before mentors and peers. The best ideas were felicitated with mementoes. A successful entrepreneur also interacted with students, sharing practical insights into enterprise development.

The programme was coordinated at GDC Kargil by Mr. Shabir Hussain, Nodal Officer, with the support and guidance of Dr. Amjad Ali, Principal, GDC Kargil.

Department of Geography, GDC Kargil Organises Special Lecture on Western Tethys Meet Eastern Tethys: Paleogeographical Bridge – An Exploration of Deep-Time Geological Evolution, Ancient Marine Lifeways and Tectonic History.
The Department of Geography organised a special academic lecture programme on the theme “Western Tethys Meet Eastern Tethys: Paleogeographical Bridge – An Exploration of Deep-Time Geological Evolution, Ancient Marine Lifeways and Tectonic History.”
The event brought together two eminent Earth scientists to share insights into the geological connections between the Western and Eastern Tethys realms, focusing on deep-time evolution, ancient marine ecosystems, and the tectonic processes that shaped these regions.
Prof. Dr. Michał Krobicki, a distinguished Polish geologist and Earth scientist from the AGH University of Science and Technology, Kraków, Poland, was the key resource person.
Prof. Dr. Talat Ahmad, a renowned Indian Earth scientist, geologist and academic administrator specialising in igneous petrology, geochemistry and Himalayan geology, shared the platform. Prof. Ahmad has a long-standing and profound association with Ladakh through his extensive research on the geology of the north-western Himalayas.
The lecture provided a unique opportunity for students, research scholars and faculty to engage with cutting-edge perspectives on the paleogeographical linkages between the Western and Eastern Tethys, highlighting the shared geological heritage and the processes that shaped ancient marine lifeways and tectonic landscapes.
The Department of Geography expressed its gratitude to both distinguished speakers for their valuable contributions and for enriching the academic discourse on this important theme.

GDC Kargil Conducts Selection-cum-Orientation Programme for Graphic Design Internship with Ladakh Times

Kargil, September 18, 2026: The Graphic Design Skill Centre at Government Degree College (GDC) Kargil conducted a Selection-cum-Orientation Programme on September 18, 2026, for students of the Graphic Design Skill Course for a three-month internship with Ladakh Times.

The programme commenced with the selection process, in which students of the Graphic Design Skill Course participated for the three-month internship opportunity with Ladakh Times. Seven students were selected for the internship.

This was followed by an orientation session conducted by Mr. Muzammil Mustafa, Editor-in-Chief, Ladakh Times, who briefed the selected students about the internship programme, nature of work, work distribution, responsibilities and professional expectations. He also highlighted the importance of practical industry exposure and working in a professional media environment.

Earlier, Nazir Ahmad, Skill Instructor, Graphic Design, welcomed the participants and highlighted the objectives of the programme and the importance of practical training in enhancing students’ skills and employability.

Dr. Mohammad Ishaq, In-charge Principal, GDC kargil encouraged students to make the best use of the internship opportunity to develop their professional skills and gain practical experience.

Prof. Stanzin Norphel, Convener, Skill Committee, emphasised the importance of internships in bridging the gap between classroom learning and professional practice.

Prof. Shabir Hussain, Member, Skill Committee, also shared his views and proposed the vote of thanks.

The three-month internship will provide the selected students with hands-on exposure to graphic design, media-related work and professional practices, helping them connect their classroom learning with real-world industry requirements.
