This brief history of the renowned monastic has been brought up to present to all the person who have earlier relation with the monastery and to like up relationship with all kind person with the monastery to spread harmony and compassion among each other. History of the Monastery (Gonpa)
During 15th Century the great Learned Jey-Tsogkhapa (Head of Three Seat of Gelug- Gaden Drepung and Sera) had a disciple name Jangsem Sherap Zangpo. Jamsam Sherap Zangpo had a disciple name Jangsam Sherap Singay. And Jamsam Sherap Singay is the founder of the MUNEY DEKIT CHOELING MONASTERY (GONPA)
He founded the Monastery while he travels to Phukther Monastery to receive his Teacher blessing. He traveled through Jangthang and was invited to visit Ladakh Thiksay Monastery were monks from Zanskar are studying. At that time with the head of the Monastery Muney Phagun Geshe Sonam Rinchen visited Zanskar Karsha Monastery and also read Kagyur Scripture at Padhun (Padum)King place. The Padhun King at the time was looking for a proper place to construct the Muney Dekit Choeling Monastery and sent Geshe Sonam Rinchen with Kalon Rinchen Dhoundup to search for proper place. They search till Toe Asho but could not locate a proper place and informed the Padhun King. The king discussed this problem with Jangsem Sherap Singay and he with this anxiety went to take nap and then he had a beautiful dream of getting proper place for the Monastery while traveling to Phunkther Monastery to meet his teacher Jangsam Sherab Zangpo. So, while traveling to Phunkther Monastery from Padhun (The present place where Muney Dekit Choeling Monastery is situated) Muney village people were waiting anxiously to welcome Jangsam Sherap Singay with Tea and snacks. Reaching at his calm and heavenly place, He had a natural feeling of the place surrounded by four sides – with right side a natural Idol of Deity Gonpo, left side a natural Stupa, at Center natural Idol of future Buddha Gyalwa Jampa and back side with natural holy water. With all the four sides filled with auspicious signs, he left this is the most suitable place for Muney Dekit Choeling Monastery and thus founded the monastery at this place. Then the ritual ceremony and celebration went for three days with full joy and happiness. This is how the monastery has been all the poor, needy and others in providing religious studies to the monks. With this success of the Monastery, The King had handed over the charge of the Monastery to Rev. Ngari Rinpoche and the Monastery has been catering monks under the Rinpoche’s Lineage. In between the monastery faced many problems which could not be solved but till date the Monastery is catering monks from different place with constructing a new school. They are provided the modern education with religious studies till 5 year. And after they are can join other big monastic Institution to study future religious studies. Thanking you,
