The Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India, Department of Tribal Welfare Government of Karnataka and Karnataka State Tribal Research Institute invited Dr Vijoyeta Deori to participate as a distinguished panellist in the National Conclave on Tribal Languages & Tribal Museums from 24th to 26th August 2026 at Mysuru, Karnataka. She shared her knowledge regarding perspectives of tribal communities themselves, at the grassroots and village level, which remain central to shaping any national approach to language and cultural preservation, yet are often the least represented in policy conversations of this kind. She articulated community needs and what is already working on the ground especially in the 5th and 6th Schedule areas of Assam.

Today, an awareness workshop titled 'Sexual Harassment at Workplace' was organized under the initiative of the Women Development Cell and the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) of Government Model College, Deithor.

Hosted by Priyanka Baruah, Assistant Professor , Department of English, GMCD , the workshop featured Manjulika Gogoi Singh, Administrative Officer of Sakhi One Stop Centre, Golaghat, as the resource person. The welcome address was delivered by Dr. Phulmoni Das, Principal in charge of Government Model College, Deithor. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Bijoyeta Deuri, President of the Internal Complaints Committee, explained the role played by the ICC in addressing workplace harassment.

Delivering her speech as the resource person, Manjulika Singh provided a detailed overview of the laws available for women in India. She facilitated a practical discussion on how Internal Complaints Committees in educational institutions can take prompt action to prevent sexual harassment. She also elaborated on the types of sexual harassment or abuse that occur in educational institutions and the protective measures that can be adopted.

Attended by all students and faculty members of the college, the workshop concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Thoibi Phukan, Convener of the Women Development Cell.

Today, the Freshers' Social 2026 was successfully organized under the initiative of the Students' Union of Government Model College, Deithor, for the academic year 2025–26. Mr.Krishna Rongpi, Assistant Professor of the Assamese Department at J.D.S.G College, Bokakhat, attended the event as the Chief Guest. In conjunction with the event, the college's annual magazine, GMCDian, was formally unveiled. The students presented various cultural performances during the program.
In line with the occasion, Assistant Professors of the college—Priyanka Baruah in memory of her late father Lokaranjan Baruah, Dr. Thoibi Phukan in memory of the late Runumi Phukan, and Dr. Vijoyeta Deori in memory of her late father Rudra Kanta Deuri—presented special awards to meritorious students. The meeting, presided over by the Principal-in-Charge of the college, Dr. Phulmoni Das, began with a welcome speech delivered by Klirdap Killingpi, General Secretary of the Students' Union. The program was anchored by student Jasmine Minz.

On 25.08.2026, the first batch of 7 students, including dropouts and members of the local community, was successfully sent to Sonapur for training in the Hospitality Sector through the Training, Placement and Internship Cell of Government Model College Deithor. Dr. Phulmoni Das, Principal In-Charge; Priyanka Baruah, Coordinator, Training, Placement and Internship Cell; and Eva Terangpi attended the interaction programme organised by NRL with the students and the media. The Department of English, GMCD successfully organized an insightful online lecture at the Conference Hall of the college on 22/08/26. The theme of the lecture was "Development of English Literature: From Anglo-Saxon to Postmodern." Ms. Himakshi Kashyap, Assistant Professor at Nagaon University was invited as the distinguished resource person for the session. Delivering an engaging and comprehensive lecture Ms. Kashyap traced the rich evolutionary trajectory of English literary tradition from the Anglo Saxon age to the present. Attendees, comprising faculty members and students gathered both virtually and in the hall, gained valuable perspectives from the lecture.

In a major effort to enhance vocational skills and expand employment prospects for students and the surrounding community, Government Model College, Deithor (GMCD) officially executed its inaugural "Academia–Industry Memorandum" of Understanding (MoU) with Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL), Golaghat.The agreement was formally signed by Mr. Mintu Handique, Chief General Manager of NRL, alongside the Principal In-Charge of GMCD, Dr. Phulmoni Das, who will also serve as the Nodal Officer for the initiative. Ms. Priyanka Baruah, Convener of the institution's Training, Placement, and Internship Cell, has been appointed Assistant Nodal Officer to oversee the operational rollout.
The MoU was executed in the presence of key industry officials, including Mr. Rupjyoti Baishya, Chief Manager (CSR), and Mr. Asish Baruah, Deputy General Manager (CSR), both of whom signed as official witnesses. The ceremony was further attended by faculty representatives Dr. Hriday Ranjan Kalita, Mr. Dharmajeet Bora, and Mr. Monjyoti Bora.

This strategic partnership marks a transformative milestone for Government Model College, Deithor, bridging academic learning with industrial expertise to foster institutional growth and regional workforce development.
