On 14 August 2026, IIT Kanpur hosted Prof. Amit Kumar from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Alberta, Canada. Prof. Kumar is the Canada Research Chair in Assessment of Energy Systems (Tier 1), Cenovus Energy Endowed Chair in Environmental Engineering, and Deputy Director of Canada’s Future Energy Systems. He also serves as Associate Director of the NSF Global Centre for Sustainable Bioproducts.

During the visit, Prof. Kumar met with Prof. Bushra Ateeq, Dean of International Relations, and Prof. Ashish Garg, Head, Department of Sustainable Energy Engineering, IIT Kanpur. The discussions focused on exploring opportunities for academic and research collaboration between IIT Kanpur and the University of Alberta, including joint research initiatives, innovation-driven partnerships, and faculty and student exchange programmes.

Such interactions play a vital role in strengthening international cooperation and fostering excellence in global research and education.

The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur was delighted to welcome Prof. Surojit Chattopadhyay from National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU), Taipei, Taiwan, who visited the Centre for Nanosciences at IIT Kanpur from August 2–10, 2026.

The visit was organised under the ongoing India–Taiwan collaborative project on developing disposable SERS sensors for screening cardiac biomarkers.

During the visit, the delegation held in-depth discussions on scientific understanding, experimental approaches, knowledge exchange, student & faculty exchange programmes, and avenues for Indian and Taiwanese companies to collaborate on research and technological innovation. The delegation also met with Prof. Bushra Ateeq, Dean of International Relations, and discussed strategies to strengthen this partnership further.

The visit marked a key step in reviewing project progress and reinforcing the strong research partnership between IIT Kanpur and NYCU.

The 𝐏𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐫 𝐁𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡 𝐨𝐟 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐒𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 & 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 (𝐑𝐈𝐒𝐄) at IIT Kanpur concluded in 𝐀𝐮𝐠𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔, offering participants a transformative experience of working with leading researchers and immersing themselves in IITK’s vibrant research ecosystem. The RISE program functions in 2-phases, 𝐖𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐎𝐧𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐫 𝐈𝐧-𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩.

• 𝐖𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐎𝐧𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 (𝐃𝐞𝐜 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓): 32 students from 𝐒𝐲𝐫𝐢𝐚, 𝐒𝐫𝐢 𝐋𝐚𝐧𝐤𝐚, 𝐍𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐥, 𝐉𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐧, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐁𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐥𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐡 worked under the mentorship of 𝟐𝟐 𝐈𝐈𝐓𝐊 𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐲 through a 4 week online program.

• 𝐒𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐫 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 (𝐌𝐚𝐲–𝐉𝐮𝐥𝐲 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔): 12 students from 𝐔𝐒𝐀, 𝐒𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐊𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐚, 𝐁𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐥𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐡, 𝐍𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐥, 𝐒𝐲𝐫𝐢𝐚, 𝐒𝐫𝐢 𝐋𝐚𝐧𝐤𝐚, 𝐌𝐲𝐚𝐧𝐦𝐚𝐫, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐌𝐚𝐝𝐚𝐠𝐚𝐬𝐜𝐚𝐫 joined for 6–8 weeks of in person research across diverse departments including 𝐂𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐀𝐞𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐞, 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐒𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞, 𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧, 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐒𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬, 𝐌𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥, 𝐄𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐒𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐞 & 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐒𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬.

We are delighted to welcome 45 international students to our full-time degree programmes for Semester I of the academic year 2026–27. This diverse cohort joins us across PhD, MTech, MDes, MSR, and MBA programmes, enriching our campus with fresh perspectives and global talent.

On 8 August 2026, IIT Kanpur hosted its International Student Orientation Programme, designed to help new students embark on their academic journey and settle into campus life.

The programme began with a heartfelt welcome address by Prof. Bushra Ateeq, Dean of International Relations, who introduced the Office of International Relations (OIR) and highlighted the initiatives, services, and opportunities available to our international community.

Adding a personal touch, two senior international students led an inspiring peer-learning session, sharing their experiences, practical insights, and tips on navigating life at IIT Kanpur. Their guidance offered the new students a relatable perspective and a supportive start to their journey.

With this new cohort, IIT Kanpur’s international student community has grown to 90+ students, representing diverse countries including Japan, Afghanistan, Vietnam, Myanmar, Yemen, Botswana, Ethiopia, Ghana, Nigeria, the United States, Syria, Iran, Sudan, Mauritius, Rwanda, Somalia, Malawi, Zambia, and Sri Lanka.

On 21 July 2026, Prof. Nomesh BhojKumar Bolia, Coordinator of the Doctoral Fellowship in India for ASEAN (DIA) Programme and Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at IIT Delhi, visited the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur.

During his visit, Prof. Bolia held a meeting with Prof. Bushra Ateeq, Dean of International Relations at IIT Kanpur, who presented a detailed overview of the Institute’s academic and research ecosystem. He also engaged with two DIA Fellowship scholars presently enrolled in doctoral studies at IIT Kanpur, one hailing from Indonesia and the other from Myanmar.

The DIA Programme, an initiative of the Government of India, enables citizens of ASEAN member states to pursue integrated PhD programmes at premier IITs across India. Selected scholars receive comprehensive financial support, including a monthly stipend and an annual research grant, for up to five years.

The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur was delighted to welcome Prof. Nick Bisley, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research), La Trobe University, and Dr. Cerasela Tanasescu, Director of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, La Trobe University, Australia, as part of the ongoing collaboration between the two institutions through the IITK–La Trobe Research Academy.

They met with Prof. Bushra Ateeq, Dean of International Relations, and Prof. Raju Kumar Gupta, Department of Chemical Engineering and Academic Programme Director of the IIT Kanpur–La Trobe University Research Academy. The discussions focused on strengthening the strategic partnership between IIT Kanpur and La Trobe University through the IITK–La Trobe Research Academy, with particular emphasis on advancing the Joint Degree Programme, expanding student exchange opportunities, and exploring new avenues for industry-academic collaboration from both sides.

The meeting also explored opportunities for collaboration in innovation, entrepreneurship, startup incubation, and knowledge exchange between the two institutions.

Ms. Khushi Aggrawal, a B.Tech. student in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, shared her experience as a semester exchange student at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL) from February to June 2026.

"My semester exchange at EPFL has been one of the most enriching experiences of my undergraduate journey. Studying at one of the world's leading universities gave me the opportunity to take fascinating courses in Machine Learning and Computer Vision, where I learned from outstanding professors and experienced a different approach to teaching and research. Being exposed to cutting-edge work in these fields strengthened my interest in pursuing higher studies and research in the future.

Beyond academics, what made this experience truly special were the people and places. Interacting with students from different countries gave me the opportunity to understand diverse cultures and perspectives while sharing my own. They made settling into a new country much easier than I had imagined. I also explored the breathtaking beauty of Switzerland and travelled to countries like France, Italy, Germany creating memories that I will cherish for a lifetime.

Living independently in a new country taught me invaluable life skills. From cooking and managing everyday responsibilities to learning French and practicing it daily with my French landlady, every experience helped me become more confident, adaptable, and self-reliant.

I am deeply grateful to the Office of International Relations, IIT Kanpur, and EPFL for making this exchange possible. This semester has shaped me both academically and personally, and I hope many more students take advantage of such opportunities to learn, grow, and experience the world beyond the classroom."

Ahead of the Bharat Innovates event, a delegation representing all Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) visited 𝐂𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐒𝐮𝐩é𝐥𝐞𝐜, 𝐅𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞, on 𝟖–𝟗 𝐉𝐮𝐧𝐞 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 to further strengthen academic and research collaboration between India and France.

Representing 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐭𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 𝐊𝐚𝐧𝐩𝐮𝐫, 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟. 𝐑𝐚𝐣𝐚 𝐀𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐦𝐮𝐭𝐡𝐮, Professor, Department of Chemistry and Associate Dean of Research & Development (ADR&D), visited CentraleSupélec and, on 9 June 2026, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for a Student Exchange Partnership on behalf of IIT Kanpur.

IIT Kanpur and CentraleSupélec signed a general agreement in April 2026, which sets out a pathway for faculty exchange, development of innovative academic projects, research collabrations, joint symposiums and more. The newly signed Student Exchange Partnership builds on this collaboration by creating opportunities for student mobility, joint learning experiences, cross-cultural engagement, and collaborative research. The partnership is expected to enrich the academic experience of students at both institutions while fostering innovation and strengthening global institutional ties.

This partnership reflects IIT Kanpur's continued commitment to fostering global excellence in education, research, and innovation.

The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur Kanpur proudly participated in the CII Industry–Academia Global Partnership Delegation to Australia from 17-24 June 2026, reaffirming its commitment to advancing international collaboration in higher education, research, and innovation.

Representing IIT Kanpur, Prof. Bushra Ateeq, Dean of International Relations, engaged with leading Australian universities, research organizations, industry leaders, and policymakers across Melbourne, Canberra, and Sydney.

The delegation visited premier institutions including Monash University, CSIRO, the University of Melbourne, RMIT University, the Australian National University (ANU), the University of New South Wales (UNSW), and the University of Sydney. During the visit to the University of Melbourne, Prof. Bushra Ateeq met with Prof. Michael Wesley, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Global, Culture & Engagement), and Prof. Alastair Sloan, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research Collaboration), to discuss opportunities for expanding academic and research collaboration under the existing Memorandum of Understanding between the two institutions.

The visit provided a valuable platform to strengthen industry–academia linkages, promote collaborative research and innovation, and explore new opportunities for student and faculty mobility between India and Australia.

The CII Industry–Academia Partnership, a flagship national forum of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), plays a pivotal role in fostering strategic partnerships between academia, industry, and research institutions to accelerate innovation, mission-driven R&D, translational research, and technology commercialization.

Through such global engagements, IIT Kanpur continues to build meaningful international partnerships that contribute to excellence in education, cutting-edge research, innovation, and global knowledge exchange.
