A book on ‘Health and Well Being’ jointly written by Dr Mahfuza Rahman and Dr Minakshi Phookan Hazarika was released by Honourable Vice Chancellor Prof Jyoti Prasad Saikia in a ceremony held at Jagannath Barooah University today, on 31st of July, 2026. Prof JP Saikia presented a very precise inaugural address on the importance of the topic, health as influenced by the surrounding environment at the present day context. He delved deeply into the contents of the book and praised the systematic presentation of the chapters. The welcome address was offered by Dr Mrinal Nath, Head, Dept. of Geography. Dr M Rahman, co-author spoke on how the thought of addressing the gap the students were facing in learning about Health Geography, and the challenges of writing the book. Dr Bimal Barah, retired Principal of erstwhile JB College, Publisher JP Sharma from Eastern Book House gave a brief speech on the occasion. The entire program was compered eloquently by Dr Saba Anish from the Dept of English. The vote of thanks was offered by Dr Minakshi P Hazarika, the co-author of the book.

Jagannath Barooah University family today organised a large-scale flood relief programme across five severely affected areas of Jorhat district, providing essential relief materials to nearly 200 flood-affected families. The relief drive covered Elengmora, Namdeuri, Ganakbari, Dorikamari, Ujantoli and adjoining localities. The programme was organised by the Jagannath Barooah University Teachers’ Unit (JBUTU) in collaboration with the University Authority, Alumni, the NCC 64 Assam BN, Jagannath Barooah University, Jagannath Barooah University Students’ Union, faculty members, non-teaching staff, students and numerous well-wishers.
