The move to spread popularity of medicinal plants has now been extended to schools. Under the CEE project of Biodiversity, the students of NAND VIDYA NIKETAN were provided saplings of various medicinal plants like Asthi Shrinkhala ,Adhatoda Vasika, Euphorbia, Appa marg , Aragvadha ,Gamhari arborea , Shwet sandalwood,Neem, etc. during their visit to Gujarat Ayurvedic University. Motivated by this, small corner of the garden in the school premises has been converted into herbal garden.
Herbal garden is of immense value to educate the children about the ancient treasure of Indian Ayurvedic way of treatment. It gives the students a better understanding of medicinal value of plants. Students were taken to the herbal garden where scientific names, medicinal properties and the uses of these medicinal plants were also displayed. The project has provided adequate greenery to school campus and has provided pollution free environment to the children.

Write up for water monitoring activity
However beautiful the strategy, you should occasionally look at the results —- Winston Churchill
The World Water Monitoring Day usually celebrated every year on 18 th September aims to do just that - build public awareness and empower the citizens to carry out basic monitoring of their local water bodies. The CEE department has been constantly conducting various activities under its “Save Water “ Project . The school assembly on 30th September 2019 witnessed a spectacular culmination of these activities in the form of a dance number by the energetic students of class VII . The catchy tune influenced by earthy folk music and the powerful lyrics left the crowd mesmerised. The students successfully reinstated the key water saving techniques through their performance. Guided by Hellen Keller’s famous words , “ Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much “ , NVN ‘s CEE team is dedicated to its Save Water Movement.

“The best way to PREDICT the FUTURE is to DESIGN it.” NAND VIDYA NIKETAN, strongly promotes the four R’s i.e. Recycling, Reusing, Refusing and Reducing to turn our school into a GREEN ZONE. On this GREENTORCH BEARING PATH, an activity to make bookmarks & greeting cards using waste material was conducted with meticulous efforts of our children. Students of class IV &V used the old calendars, old bangles, ribbon, shells, mirrors, ice cream sticks, seeds, toffee wrappers, old papers, used charts etc. to design bookmarks and cards.
AS BOOKS ARE FRIEND OF HUMAN BEING, BOOKMARKS ARE THE BEST FRIEND OF BOOKS.
“A GREETING CARD EXPRESSES TRUE EMOTIONS, JOY, THANKS, LOVE AND ADMIRATION.”
This activity was carried as a part of waste management projectunder CEE departmentof our school. The cards and bookmarks prepared with the waste material and the sweat of diligent children turned into beautiful colours. These cards were given to teachers on the auspicious occasion of Teachers’ Day. Teachers felt overwhelmed with the astonishing gift they got from the kids.

The term ‘healthy lifestyle’, healthy living is heard almost everywhere these days –on the television, on social media platform as well as in magazines. But at NVN we try to sensitise our youngsters to follow the healthy habits when you are still young to follow later in growing up.
A talk was arranged for classes 1 & 2 as a part of CCE project on Healthy Living. Dr. Heena Goswami, diabetologists practicing since last 7 years in Jamnagar, was invited in our school to talk about healthy living. With her voice modulation and blend of English, Hindi and Gujarati language she connected excellently with our children to inspire them to follow healthy lifestyle enthusiastically.
It is easy to inculcate good habits in young ones with little efforts. She talked about how healthy lifestyle implies having a balanced diet, say no to junk food, playing, exercising, taking adequate sleep 10 to 11hours a day, drinking sufficient water, maintaining hygiene, not spending too much time on screen to live a wholesome and healthy life.
Our students were very happy and positive and even promised to follow good healthy habits thus healthy leaving.

“When the well’s dry, we know the worth of water.” - Benjamin Franklin
NVN believes in making every drop of water count .On 14 th August, as a part of the save water programme of CEE team, the students of class VII conducted an unique awareness drive to save water. They put up posters in strategic areas outside the washrooms and near the water fillers in the school premises . These posters will be constantly reminding the students of the save water strategies every time they enter the washrooms or go to fetch drinking water . Our respected Principal Sir had an extremely motivating interactive session with the students in this regard. We must never forget that the water cycle and the life cycle are one. The students of NVN are spreading the message loud and clear that to save water is to save a life.

As a part of CEE activity, the tiny tots of Grade 3 brought water and food for birds from their home. They placed the containers of water and grain for birds at various locations. This activity helped them to understand the need of providing water and food to birds as with increasing urbanization, birds struggle to find natural sources of water. The main focus was to sensitize the students about how we can contribute in saving these birds during the heat of summer. Children were enlightened and their response was overwhelming. They also pledged that they will follow the same guidelines towards the protection of the birds.

"If you fail to sow good thoughts in your mind, the w**ds of evil thoughts will take root there and eventually they will take up the space and not let good thoughts flourish".
W**ding is required because w**ds are competitive plants as they reduce the useful crop yield by acquiring space, fertilizers and nutrients from the soil.
W**d may or may not be troublesome, but removing them is required because they take up precious space you would want for useful plants to grow.
As part of CEE biodiversity project students of class 6, 7 & 8 have been taught to identify and w**d the garden.
It helped to inculcate sense of commitment and responsibility in our children.

‘Litter is a waste in the wrong place’. Litter can be harmful to people, animals and the natural environment, as it can threaten their existence and evolution.
Taking this cause into consideration, the Litter Less Campaign was implemented in school to engage and educate the students on the issues of litter and also encourage them to make positive changes. The students were empowered to understand the key litter issues in their communities, and in turn drive campaigns that focus on consuming less, recycling, waste issues, and long term behavior change. The CEE committee of NVN, Jamnagar strongly believes that the single best and the only sustainable - solution to reduce all forms of litter is to dispose off their trash properly in the first place.
The litter less campaign was observed in the school from 09 th July 2019 to 20 th July 2019. During this campaign, CEE core committee members introduced three coloured dustbins for segregation of waste in the morning assembly. The committee explained the importance of this campaign and inspired the students to dump the waste in the respective colored dustbins. A cleanliness drive was conducted in community area “RAVI PARK TOWNSHIP,JAMNAGAR” by students of Class IV. Paper bags were made from waste newspapers by students of Class V. Selling of saplings grown in used coconut shells was done by Class IX students. Interview of parents and teachers about litter and its impact on the environment was recorded. A selfie contest with the catchiest caption with a sapling grown in coconut shell was conducted and the winner of the contest was awarded on 15th August.
Let’s all take pledge to make our environment clean and green... if we don’t want to live in trash, better we don’t create it.

Be nice to animals.
Be nice to people.
If you do that, you will leave a mark on the world."

The culmination of a week long VAN MAHOTSAV CELEBRATION from 02-07-19 to 08-07-19 was presented by students of class 7 through a drama depicting that deforestation is changing our climate, harming our people and the natural world. We must and can reverse this trend.

CEE mantra for the day:
"It is our collective and individual responsibility...to preserve and tend to the world in which we all live."
