7 Tips to Win 6100 INR Cash Reward During 28th Digital Writopreneurs Christmas and New Year Writing Contest
At Digital Writopreneurs we host various contests almost every month, these contests are a perfect way to evaluate your growth as a writer, deal with procrastination and venture into new topics and try new writing styles.
Here are my seven tips on how to write a write-up that will win the contest.
1. Carefully go through all the rules and regulations of the contest and start with thorough research on the given topic. Understand what is it that the contest guidelines are actually demanding from you as a writer.
2. Come up with the main concept of your story/article and start with creating a skeleton of the write-up. Here you start creating the core essence of your write-up, the main message you want to deliver through it.
3. Yes, your write-up should deliver a message to the readers, readers should read your write-up with curiosity about why you wrote it the way you did, and what will they find out after they finish reading it. If this message is missing the readers might like the article but they won’t be impacted or moved by it.
4. Take your readers on a journey with you, and use simple language with easy words so it's relatable to almost everyone. Avoid adding too many fancy words, your readers shouldn’t have to google words in almost every paragraph.
5. If you are discussing a problem then briefly go over all the perspectives on the issue but don’t spend too much time on it instead try to keep your write-up solution oriented. The readers are already familiar with the issues the reason they want to read your write-up is to find answers/solutions.
6. Make your story an emotional one, add personal anecdotes and use words that represent emotions rather than situations. Show the story instead of telling it. For instance: Instead of writing “I was feeling nauseous.” Write “My head spun and my chest felt heavy.” This small change makes a huge difference in connecting with your readers.
7. Lastly have a good writing flow and connectivity between all that you discuss, all the anecdotes and facts should connect with the main essence of your writeup. Everything should come together in a cohesive end/conclusion that should leave your readers content and hopeful. Don’t add unrelated information, it will only break the flow of the story.
Here is one bonus tip: If you feel stuck and don’t know what to write, put yourself in a reader's position and ask yourself why would you want to read about this topic, what would you look for in the writeup, what type of message will leave you satisfied.

How to make your Fiction Story feel Alive?
The answer to this question lies in reading fiction, yes reading. Ask yourself- why do you read fiction? What makes you enjoy it?
Chances are your answer will be something like this “ when I read a fiction story I get lost within its world; I love reading it because I get to experience various characters and their adventures.” This right here is the key to making your story feel real.
You need to take your reader on an adventure, make them feel what your character is feeling, and have them mesmerized by your fiction world.
Here are three simple ways to achieve this combination:
1)World Building: Construct the world in which your story is taking place, eg: where your character lives, and what are the characteristics of that world- you decide all this depending on the requirements of your story. You need to design it in a way that feels real and readers can relate to it. Although be sure to not overdo this as it might lead to utter chaos in the story later on.
2)Adventurous: You need to make your story fun, exciting and captivating. Your storyline should feel like an adventure to your readers. They should be anxious to know what happens next. For this, you plot should be well planned and your writing should be in flow.
3)Engagement: Your readers need to care about your character/s and that happens when they can relate and empathise with the character/s. To generate these emotions in the reader your writing should be able to make the reader feel whatever your character/s is going through- use metaphors to describe the experience.
Working on these three skills as a fiction writer will immensely improve your storytelling skills.

How to start writing a Fiction Story? Here is the answer.
“I have this great story idea; I want to write it but I don’t know how to start.” This is one of the most frequently asked questions by many aspiring fiction writers. This is completely understandable; you have this awesome idea and it plays out in your head like a movie and so you want to write it down and this is where the problem starts- the problem of not knowing how to.
Most people get stuck here on the first stage of- How should I write it? Where should I start? If you do make it past this stage and start writing you might experience a lack of writing flow, whatever you write feels flat, and there may be many plot holes in your story then what to do?
Don’t worry I’ve got you covered!
Here’s how I start my process of writing a fiction story:
1)Thought/Idea dumping: Just start writing down your ideas and don’t worry about them making sense, just write them. Here you are noting all those awesome ideas in your favourite diary or writing app. This is where your ideas start taking some shape.
2)Characters: You identify your characters, give them a purpose, shape their personality, name them and define their relationship with the main character. All your characters should add something to the story.
3)Making a story: You start creating links between your ideas. Here you decide how the story will start, what will follow and how the story will come to an end for this I use what I call the fiction formula.

HAUNTED RAIN DROPS
The sky was grey that day with brooding clouds covering its expanse. It had rained throughout the night, falling heavily on the roof of the tent we were staying in. We were on a vacation and had taken a trip to Sanasar lake. We were staying at a camping resort and our tent was at the back of the resort near a wooden cabin which was under construction and not in use. I woke up before everyone else and decided to go on a morning walk by myself. Even though it was 9 am it still felt as if it was nighttime due to all the darkness caused by the cloudy weather. Putting on a warm jacket and covering my head with a woollen cap I started to follow a foot trail that lead into the woods circled the wooden cabin and ended at the front of the resort. This was not my first time following this trail, my family and I had explored it the very first day we arrived at the location. It was a very beautiful path and rain had just enhanced its beauty, the pine leaves were dripping with water droplets, the air was filled with the aroma of the wet soil and the path was soggy and the dried leaves didn’t crunch under my feet anymore. I could hear birds chirping and different insects singing, I felt in touch with nature as if I was one with it. Soon I reached the front gate where all the flower beds were, and water drops were collected on the flower petals like shiny pearls of various sizes. As I was admiring them, I heard a sound of rustling behind me as if something had run across the pathway and into the bushes, for a moment my heart beat picked up and my breathing became faster but after a few seconds of collecting myself, I decided that it probably was an animal just running around its home. Nothing to worry about, what else could it be?
I had been out for at least twenty minutes now and the way clouds were grumbling again I was pretty sure that it could start pouring anytime. I decided to head back to my tent following the same trail as it was much shorter and easier than having to walk across the resort grounds. Due to the cold temperatures and moist air it had become a little foggy, to be honest, the atmosphere had started to look like the ones in a horror movie, as I was making my way back for some reason I was more aware of the crunching sound made by my feet on the gravel path and after that animal running by the incident, I had become a little spooked so I picked up my pace and started walking faster and faster and that’s when I heard it, heard the sound of someone walking behind me. This had my feet move even faster but so did the person behind me the faster I became the faster became the sound behind me. This made me launch into a sprint only for my foot to get caught in the roots of a big old tree and face planting myself onto the ground. I fell on my hands first and then my forehead met with the wet soil disorienting my senses for a second but then I whipped my head back to look at who was following me, only to find that a small branch tangled up in thorny and stringy bush had gotten stuck to the soles of my shoes and had been dragged by me all this time. I burst out laughing at my stupidity and for letting my fears get the best of me.
This funny moment was short-lived as a fat raindrop fell on my head and within a second it was down pouring within a moment I was on my feet running as fast as I could making my way to the nearest shelter and ending up being inside the wooden cabin. The cabin was an old one and was filled with smelling rotten wood, it was divided into two sections and had three very big windows that lit up the insides as much as it could in this gloomy weather. I was just getting my breath back when I heard the noise of squeaking floor boards but this time I simply thought of it as nothing more than wind then came the echoing sound that was a mix between a sequel and a roar but it could have been just a floorboard right? But this explanation didn’t help for long as the same sound came, again and again, it was getting louder and clearer indicating the increasing closeness of the source. I was turning a slow circle trying to figure out the direction from which the sound was coming. Then on the wall opposite the window, I saw a shadow of a creature like none other and as if to make the moment even more spooky the lightning cracked through the sky making my heart skip a beat, and my skin broke into goosebumps and I was so frightened that my scream too got stuck in my thought, at that moment I thought I was done for. The creature was one with four legs a big and long tail with spikes on its back a long neck a head that was a big smooth spherical shape and that was it, I was so scared that I was glued to the floor unable to move but then the shadow of the creature started to become smaller and smaller. This made me collect my wits and recover from the shock, soon the shadow became as small as that of a cat and surely enough from behind the wooden divider came out a cat that had gotten its head stuck in an old vase and was shivering from getting drenched in the cold rain.
After making my way back to the tent I ask the caretaker at the resort to go help the cat as I wasn’t sure how to free it from the vase without hurting it. The caretaker was successfully able to free the cat. It is funny how both nature and our mind can play such tricks on us that most bizarre thoughts can shape our reality.
