•जन्‍म 20 जून 1958 को ओडिशा के मयूरगंज जिले के बैदपोसी गांव में हुआ।
•आदिवासी जातीय समूह, संथाल से संबंध रखती है।
•देश की पहली आदिवासी राष्‍ट्रपति है।
•वर्ष 2007 में ओडिशा विधानसभा के बेस्‍ट एमएलए ऑफ द ईयर पुरस्‍कार से नवाजा गया था ।
•झारखंड की ऐसी पहली राज्‍यपाल थीं जिन्‍होंने इस राज्‍य के गठन के बाद पांच वर्ष का कार्यकाल पूरा किया. इन्‍होंने वर्ष 2015 से 2021 तक झारखंड के राज्‍यपाल का पद संभाला है।
•ओडिशा राज्‍य से देश के शीर्ष पद तक पहुंचने वाली ये पहली शख्सियत है।
