All the volunteers were introduced to the members and each other, and everyone was assigned their respective tasks, so that the events could be coordinated well and collectively lead to a successful Boond Week!! Everyone enjoyed completing pre-festival arrangements, and tried their best to ensure that the school children that start coming from the next day feel comfortable and enjoy to the maximum.

After putting in a hard day’s work and hoping that a superb Week is carried out, the Members and Volunteers left satisfied that they had done a good job, which would surely lead to accomplishing a fruitful Boond Week.

Day 3 : Christmas Celebration ( Boond Festival Week 2014 ) 13/01/2015

“Christmas is the spirit of giving without a thought of getting. It is happiness because we see joy in people. It is forgetting self and finding time for others. It is discarding the meaningless and stressing the true values.”
With this spirit, commenced the third and final day of the Boond Festival Week 2014. With an unmatched vigor, Boond was committed to make this day the best among the three days. The 24th of December, 2014 was programed to be celebrated as CHRISTMAS DAY with the kids from the Chattar school, Vihaan school and the Ram Mandir school!!!! The schools started arriving at 10.30 A.M., the children visibly mesmerized by the beautiful decorations around them- the Christmas tree, the stars, balloons, decorative fillers, charts, et al. The volunteers and members were asked to come dressed in Red and White, which accentuated the festive mood all around. The kids themselves personally came and started conversing with the members, as the previous 2 days of fun had made them familiar with each other.

The children started walking across the field, admiring the decorations and getting thrilled amongst themselves. They were served Aloo tikiya chutney and Soup as their snack meal, which they savored. In accordance with the previous days, they were made to display their specialties in front of the audience, which everyone appreciated. Then was the time for the Dance!! With lively music being played in the background, the children and the members alike danced heartily and thoroughly enjoyed, as well as drained, themselves. Simultaneously with the Stall games (Feed the Monster, Hit the Glass) and the Bouncy, a very exciting game, “Bombing the City” was organized- in this game, 4 cities were demarcated at the four different corners and the kids were asked to run from one end to another till the music played. As the music stopped, the kids had to choose any one corner, and the corner whose name was called-out was declared out. What an amazement it was to see such a large number of children running helter-skelter on the Sewa Sadanground, cheering and enjoying thoroughly. After these exciting games, a mouth-watering lunch was awaiting the students, in the form of Daal-Bati, Churma, Mirchi, sweets. The children ate immensely and needless to say, relished the food very much. After the delicious lunch, Boond had another surprise in store for the children- the attraction of the day!!! The kids were assembled school-wise and made to sit on front of the stage. There was a cake cutting ceremony, which was distributed among the kids. And within a few minutes, BEHOLD!!, appeared someone very familiar and popular, especially among children. Ho Ho Ho, it was none other than the Santa Clause!!!! Jingle Bells started playing in the background with Santa’s entry, and the kids literally went mad!!! Shouting, hooting, cheering, applauses surrounded theenvironment. Santa distributed toffees among the kids and more than the toffees, the kids were excited about shaking hands with Santa. They were in complete awe of the event. Consequently, the certificates for the Sports Day event were distributed and the kids, in a very sporting manner, cheered each other and clapped for one another.

As the schools started leaving the Sewa Sadan premises in their buses, there was a mixed feeling of happiness and a bit of sadness. Happiness because the Boond Festival Week had truly met its aim- instilling joy in the lives of the children, and sadness because from the next day onwards, we would be back to our routine lives- the Boond Week was over! But, with a hope of organizing more such and better events in the near future, we bid adieu to the Boond Festival Week-2014!!!!

Day 1 : Sports Day ( Boond Festival Week 2014) 09/01/2015

With a noble mind and a generous heart that symbolizes the tradition of Boond, it set out to organize yet another year of the popular Boond Week to position it as an even better version this year than the last one. The main motive for the members and the volunteers at Boond was to see the center of attraction of this event happy- a smile on the faces of the children from the schools, coming from different slum areas of Jaipur.

Hence, with this as its motivation, thus commenced the Boond Festival Week- Day 1 on the 22nd day of December 2014 at the Adarsh Nagar Sewa Sadan. Attended by around 350 children from 3 different schools around Jaipur, namely Chattar school, Vihaan school and the Ram Mandir school, today’s event was destined to be a whole lot of fun and frolic for the kids. Because today was the SPORTS DAY!!!!!!! A beautiful sunny day in the harsh winters of Jaipur proved that even the nature was supporting us in bringing a smile on these children’s faces.

The kids started arriving at the venue by 10.30 A.M. and very courteously and in an organized manner, were made to sit in their tents by the members. Each school had a respective tent of its own, where seated the children of that school. Members and volunteers started the ball rolling with engaging in friendly and a frank talk with the children, and making them feel completely comfortable. In each tent, the respective members assigned to that tent asked the kids to display their talents and engage in entertainment. The kids frequently shouted out their school’s name in the midst of it all, to get their school recognized. All these small-scale actions made the kids content. A short introductory speech was given next, after which kids from each school were asked to come up on the stage and show their skills in front of everyone. It was indeed a very pleasurable sight as the kids sang, recited poems, showed off their dancing and acrobatic skills, and basically, let’s say, thoroughly enjoyed!!!!! Tasty ‘Poha’ and ‘Rabri’ were provided to the kids, which they relished very much.

Now was the time for the main event of the day- the Sports!!!!! Each school was being pepped up and getting geared up for winning the maximum races. And seeing their power-packed zeal and enthusiasm, the games were declared open! There were interschool races organized which comprised of the relay and the sprint races. For both the races, each school sent 6 kids- 3 boys and 3 girls to compete. The white lines were chalked out, the finish string ready, the coordinators ready and most importantly, the participants all set to win! So as to invigorate the children, there was even a fun race in which some of the members took part and competed amongst themselves. It was indeed a very nice gesture undertaken, as the children liked the fact that even the ‘Bhaiyas’ and ‘Didis’ were racing. After this, the tug of war event was conducted, in which everyone showcased their strength and tried to win by pulling the rope as hard as they could. It was remarkable to see the vigor by which everyone was pulling at the rope. All these events were being participated with a lot of enthusiasm, with lively music being played in the background. Side-by-side, there was even a provision of stall games such as ‘Feed the Monster’, ‘Hit the Glasses’, etc. which saw long queues of children eagerly wanting to try out.

Lunch followed after these exhaustive events, where the kids were offered with delectable delicacies such as aloo-poori, mirchi and pakodas. After eating to their heart’s content, the children were lined up school-wise and taken towards playing on the Bouncy! Their joy knew no bounds!! The kids were really excited to play on the Bouncy and were requesting the members to let them go on the Bouncy again and again. It was genuinely very elating for us all to see the cheerful faces of the kids. Happiness, Masti and the loud cheering of the children filled the air. Therefore, ended Day 1 on a positive note and with noticing beaming faces all around. Although it was indeed hectic, all of us were filled with all the more zeal to make the next 2 days even better. This day was really special- it gave a magical feeling of euphoria!!!
