*The Beginning of a Journey*
At the age of 18, I embarked on my journey into student leadership in 2015, with little idea of what lay ahead. I began as a volunteer for student leaders, associations, and NGOs, while enduring personal hardships—financial struggles, and challenges in focusing on academics. But through those early experiences, under the mentorship of leaders, I learned a profound truth: fulfillment is found in serving others. Gandhi’s words, “To know your true self, first sacrifice yourself in living for others,” became my guiding light and ignited a fire within me that still burns strong.
*Resilience in Adversity*
In 2016, my unwavering dedication to the student union at DNGC led to my academic failure. When I couldn’t secure admission the following year, I was left with no choice but to move to Shillong. With only dreams and a few coins in my pocket, I joined a private college, negotiating fees I could barely afford. My room was no bigger than a closet, and many days I walked five kilometers under the scorching sun or in pouring rain because I couldn’t afford a cab. Those struggles forged my resolve, and I vowed to fight for increased intake capacities in colleges so that no student would face the rejection and hardship I endured.
*A Commitment to Uplift*
Later that year, I was appointed as the Education Secretary of Nyishi Students' Shillong. My role extended beyond preserving culture—I was on the ground, helping students find colleges and accommodations and offering career counseling. I served with relentless commitment, determined to uplift others and create lasting change.
*Leadership in Action*
My efforts earned me the position of campaigner for the General Secretary candidate of ASUS (Arunachal Students' Union Shillong). Later, I was chosen as the official Nyishi candidate for Convenor, winning unopposed. In this role, I spearheaded initiatives that left a mark:
I organized an orphanage donation drive at Gyan Mission Orphanage, shining a spotlight on their work and attracting wider support.
I led a mega blood donation camp at NEIGRIHMS Shillong, where over 1,000 youth participated, ensuring life-saving blood for patients from Arunachal who had nowhere else to turn.
I launched the Mega Arunachal Tribe Festival (MATF), a powerful celebration of our culture, sports, and talent, fostering unity among Arunachali students in Shillong.
*Transformational Leadership*
As General Secretary of ASUS, I was not just a leader—I was a force for transformation. I made the blood donation camp an annual calendar event, secured free cyber services for BPL students, fought for fee relaxations for APST students, and pushed for the establishment of the Arunachal Guest House near NEIGRIHMS, which now stands as a testament to our efforts. I led protests against the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) and fought for PRC rights, rallying 3,000 students to the streets. My leadership left a lasting legacy of activism and impact.
*Confronting Systemic Challenges*
After completing my term at ASUS, I joined Jarbom Gamlin Government Law College, where I faced the system’s deep flaws—limited resources, non-functional hostels, and no transportation. I raised my voice for student rights, and though it led to my expulsion, I remained undeterred. I pursued my Master’s through distance education, all while continuing my fight for justice and student welfare.
*Rising from Defeat*
In 2021, I contested for the post of Education Secretary at ANSU but lost. However, defeat only strengthened my resolve. I joined APADA (Arunachal Pradesh Anti-Drugs Association) to help young people break free from addiction and create better lives. I also served as a spokesperson for ABKLSU and contributed to various sports and student organizations, staying true to my mission.
*A Vision for Change*
In 2022, I founded my own NGO, MISSION 1000, with the goal of planting 1,000 trees and donating blood to save 1,000 patients. By 2023, I had also founded my own football club, becoming the youngest club owner and creating opportunities for aspiring athletes.
*Scars of Service*
In all my years in the Students' Union, I’ve been to jail several times, faced lathi charges, and my body bears the scars of those struggles. Yet, each of those experiences only made me stronger and more determined to fight for the rights of students and the community.
*A Commitment to Outreach*
Even after losing the 2021 election as a primary member of All Nyishi Students' Union (ANSU), I visited all the Nyishi-dominated districts and areas. I have visited more than 100 schools and helped over 10 schools. I believe that if I win the election in the future, I will visit over 1,000 schools and work tirelessly to make a difference everywhere.
*Purposeful Leadership*
For me, student union leadership is not about personal glory—it’s about service, about fighting for what’s right, and about creating a future where every student has the tools, the support, and the opportunity to succeed. I am driven by this purpose, and I believe that through the union, we can achieve lasting, meaningful change for all.
*A Strong Return*
Now, in 2024, I return to contest once again for the post of Education Secretary at ANSU. This time, I come back stronger, more experienced, and more determined than ever. My mission is clear: to break down the barriers that hold us back and to ensure that no student is left behind. This is my calling, and I will fulfill it with every ounce of strength I possess.
