Why do employers keep talking about an employability gap?

Maybe we're measuring the wrong thing.

For years, students have been told:

✅ Get certifications.
✅ Build projects.
✅ Complete internships.

But here's the uncomfortable truth:

Those activities prepare you to demonstrate skills.

They don't necessarily prepare you to operate inside an organization.

A company doesn't just hire someone who can code.

It hires someone who can create value despite changing priorities, deadlines, stakeholders, constraints, and business goals.

Most students believe getting hired is the finish line.
In reality, it's where a completely different learning journey begins.

Engineering students spend years preparing for exams, coding challenges, aptitude tests, interviews, and placements. But very few get exposure to what actually happens inside a professional workplace.

Standup meetings.
Sprint planning.
Jira tickets.
Code reviews.
Escalations.
Retrospectives.

These aren't difficult concepts. They're simply unfamiliar concepts.
