Centre for Cultural and Folklore Studies (CCFS), Postgraduate and Research Department of English and IKS, St. Xavier’s College for Women, Aluva, in collaboration with the Centre for Folklore Studies and Research (CFSR), West Bengal, organised a One-Day Invited Expert Lecture Series on 17 August 2026 on the occasion of the MoU Signing Ceremony.
The programme featured two distinguished lectures: Dr. Aswathy Rajan spoke on “When Dance Moves Cinema: Voyages Across Visual Culture,” while Dr. Soumya Sajan delivered a lecture on “A Methodological Approach to Reading, Interpreting, and Negotiating Culture.”
The event provided an enriching academic platform for students, researchers, and faculty members to engage with contemporary perspectives on visual culture, folklore, translation, and cultural studies.
The programme also marked an important step towards strengthening academic collaboration between CCFS and CFSR through the signing of the MoU, paving the way for future joint research, seminars, workshops, and cultural initiatives.

This year’s theme, “Researching and Reactivating Folklore: Traditions in a Changing World,” invites us to explore folklore not merely as a remnant of the past, but as a living, evolving body of knowledge that continues to shape communities, cultures and contemporary expressions.
Across four enriching days, the celebration will bring together live folk performances, academic discussions, panel sessions, paper presentations, keynote addresses and interactive sessions. From vibrant folk traditions such as Oggu Katha to critical conversations on contemporary Folklore Studies, the programme seeks to create a space where scholarship, performance, practitioners and emerging voices can meet.
We are honoured to welcome leading scholars and practitioners of Folklore Studies in India, alongside a vibrant group of young and emerging folklorists, who will share their research, perspectives and experiences through talks and interactions.

দুই দিনের ভাওয়াইয়া গান ও কাঠি ঢোল (বাংলা ঢোল) কর্মশালা
শুভ সন্ধ্যা।
উত্তরবঙ্গের ঐতিহ্যবাহী ভাওয়াইয়া সংস্কৃতি ও লোকসংগীতের সংরক্ষণ, চর্চা, প্রসার এবং আগামী প্রজন্মের কাছে তা পৌঁছে দেওয়ার উদ্দেশ্যে আগামী ১২ ও ১৩ সেপ্টেম্বর ২০২৬ দুই দিনব্যাপী একটি বিশেষ কর্মশালার আয়োজন করা হয়েছে।
এই কর্মশালায় উত্তরবঙ্গের লোকসংস্কৃতির দুটি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ঐতিহ্য—ভাওয়াইয়া গান এবং কাঠি ঢোল (বাংলা ঢোল)—নিয়ে হাতে-কলমে প্রশিক্ষণ ও অনুশীলনের ব্যবস্থা থাকবে।

এই দিনের কর্মশালায় ভাওয়াইয়া গানের ঐতিহ্য, গায়নরীতি, সুর, পরিবেশনশৈলী এবং উত্তরবঙ্গের জীবন ও সংস্কৃতির সঙ্গে ভাওয়াইয়া গানের নিবিড় সম্পর্ক নিয়ে আলোচনা ও অনুশীলন করা হবে।

কাঠি ঢোল (বাংলা ঢোল)-এর কর্মশালা
এই দিনের কর্মশালায় কাঠি ঢোল/বাংলা ঢোলের ঐতিহ্য, তাল, ছন্দ, বাজানোর কৌশল এবং লোকসংগীত ও লোকউৎসবে এর ব্যবহার সম্পর্কে ব্যবহারিক প্রশিক্ষণ দেওয়া হবে।
🌿 আমাদের আহ্বান
ভাওয়াইয়া শুধু একটি গান নয়—এটি উত্তরবঙ্গের মানুষের জীবন, অনুভূতি, প্রকৃতি, প্রেম, বিরহ, শ্রম ও লোকজ অভিজ্ঞতার এক গুরুত্বপূর্ণ সাংস্কৃতিক দলিল। একইভাবে কাঠি ঢোল আমাদের লোকপরিবেশনার ছন্দ ও ঐতিহ্যের অবিচ্ছেদ্য অংশ।
এই অমূল্য লোকঐতিহ্যকে সংরক্ষণ, চর্চা, লালন-পালন এবং নতুন প্রজন্মের মধ্যে ছড়িয়ে দেওয়ার লক্ষ্যে আয়োজিত এই সাংস্কৃতিক উদ্যোগে সকল শিল্পী, সংস্কৃতিকর্মী, লোকসংগীতপ্রেমী, শিক্ষার্থী এবং আগ্রহী মানুষকে আন্তরিকভাবে অংশগ্রহণের আহ্বান জানাচ্ছি।
আসুন, আমাদের লোকঐতিহ্যকে শুধু স্মৃতিতে নয়, চর্চার মধ্য দিয়ে বাঁচিয়ে রাখি।
আসুন, ভাওয়াইয়া ও উত্তরবঙ্গের লোকসংস্কৃতির সঙ্গে আরও গভীরভাবে যুক্ত হই।
