Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan recently announced that NEET will shift from the traditional OMR-based offline examination to a Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode from next year.
But beyond offline or computerized exams, a much bigger question needs honest discussion.
Is a highly competitive examination alone truly the proper way to identify who will become future doctors?
Today, the coaching industry around NEET and Engineering has become one of the biggest businesses in education. Giant advertisements, AIR rankings, expensive coaching packages, test series, hostel programs, online batches, and “topper marketing” have transformed preparation into a massive commercial ecosystem.
And this is the reality society cannot ignore.
Most coaching systems are designed to train students for: • MCQ solving speed
• Rank-oriented competition
• Shortcut techniques
• Repetitive mock tests
• Time pressure management
• Examination patterns
Students become experts at cracking exams.
But does that automatically mean they are emotionally, ethically, and practically prepared to become doctors?
Because medicine demands far beyond marks.
A real doctor also needs: • Compassion
• Emotional resilience
• Communication skills
• Ethical judgement
• Patience with patients
• Humanity during suffering
• Ability to make calm decisions under pressure
These qualities cannot be fully measured through one high-pressure entrance examination.
The uncomfortable truth is that many students later move away from clinical practice toward: • MBA and hospital administration
• Healthcare business
• Corporate sectors
• YouTube and influencing
• Overseas careers
• Entrepreneurship
• Non-clinical professions
Not necessarily because they failed, but because cracking NEET and living the reality of medicine are two very different journeys.
The system today often rewards: “Who can perform best in a competitive exam?”
But healthcare ultimately requires: “Who can responsibly handle human lives?”
A student may score exceptionally high in NEET, yet struggle emotionally with patient care.
Another student with average scores may become the doctor people trust, remember, and respect for life because of empathy, dedication, and humanity.
So the debate is no longer only about: OMR vs CBT.
The real debate is:
Has education become too focused on ranks, coaching business, and competition, while qualities like ethics, aptitude, emotional intelligence, and service mindset remain largely unmeasured?
Perhaps the future of medical education should not only ask: “Who can crack the exam?”
But also: “Who is truly prepared to carry the responsibility of being a doctor?”
Because medicine is not only about clearing a test.
It is about caring for human life.

In an age where presentation is becoming more powerful than principles, many people have mastered the art of looking successful.
Smart dressing, fluent communication, luxurious offices, social media presence — everything looks perfect from the outside.
But when it comes to a student’s future…
Is appearance enough?
Because education is not a fashion industry.
Career counselling is not a show business.
And a student’s life is far too valuable to be guided by image alone.
What truly defines a genuine educational consultant is not how polished the outer personality looks, but: The depth of knowledge
✨ The honesty behind every guidance
✨ The ethics followed during admissions
✨ The responsibility towards parents’ trust
✨ The ability to guide students according to their real potential — not for profit
Parents may get impressed by appearance for a moment…
But they place their trust in those who provide clarity, truth, and direction.
Anyone can market dreams.
But only a few have the integrity to guide students honestly — even when the truth is difficult.
At the end of the day, real success in education is not measured by glamour, branding, or popularity.
It is measured by the number of lives guided in the right direction.
Because smartness may attract attention…
But knowledge and honesty build reputation.

'Not every dream is limited to NEET or JEE'

One of the biggest reasons behind the growing stress, anxiety, and emotional breakdown among students today is not only academic pressure — but also the lack of awareness about career opportunities beyond a few traditional professions.
According to NCRB (National Crime Records Bureau) data, India recorded nearly 13,892 student suicides in 2023, showing an alarming increase of around 65% in the last decade. Reports suggest that, on average, nearly one student dies every hour in India due to emotional distress, academic pressure, fear of failure, uncertainty, and lack of proper support systems.
At the same time, millions of students continue competing for a limited number of seats in only a few socially accepted career paths like medicine and engineering. Unfortunately, many students and parents are still unaware that today there are more than 180+ career options across diverse industries offering excellent growth, financial stability, global exposure, creativity, and meaningful success.
Fields like artificial intelligence, biotechnology, psychology, design, aviation, law, data science, digital marketing, entrepreneurship, sports sciences, environmental sciences, paramedical sciences, media, hospitality, international education, and many more are rapidly growing worldwide. Yet, due to limited awareness and societal pressure, students often feel that failure in one examination means failure in life itself.
Studies and reports on student mental health repeatedly highlight that academic pressure, uncertainty about future career paths, comparison culture, parental expectations, and lack of emotional guidance significantly affect young minds.
The real crisis today is not just competition — it is the absence of proper career guidance at the right stage of life. Many students are never given the opportunity to understand: • their strengths
• aptitude
• personality
• interests
• emotional capacity
• alternative career pathways
As a result, countless students keep chasing careers chosen by society instead of discovering where they can truly grow, perform, and feel fulfilled.
Career counseling, psychometric assessments, emotional support, and career awareness programs have now become extremely important for both students and parents. Children must be taught that life offers multiple opportunities, and success is not limited to one exam, one college, or one profession.
A rank can decide admission, but it should never decide the value of a life.
Every child deserves guidance, hope, emotional support, and the freedom to explore their own path toward success.
