It is true that all parents consider the best for their children and that is the reason why they want their children to have a well settled life and apparently, these two fields (Engineering & Medical) provide a good base for an established life. But at the same time, it is essential to understand that we need to move ahead with the changing time & conditions and also be aware of all other career options that can provide the same desired level of success & settlement. And in most cases, the other options can even lead to a better life.
We need to understand that each child is unique and has a different acumen for different fields. So, it is not necessary for someone to be interested in either of the above-mentioned fields. Children may have other ambitions/skillset in fields like public policy, social media marketing, aviation, etc. If they get a chance to utilise their skillset/traits/natural abilities, they will excel in these fields, which may not be the case if they pursue the usual norms followed by the crowd.
Along with informed career choices, financial planning is a definite pre-requisite as we have already witnessed an ever-increasing inflation in education, which is bound to sky-rocket further in the near future.

Hello friends,
We often come across statements like, “Data is the new oil”, “Coding is the language of the future”, etc. I first developed my interest towards analytics while I was pursuing M. tech from IITG. In the very first meeting with my guide, he told me “Gaurav, we need to work on analyzing characteristic strength of soil. We have all the required data, so start working on it and get the license of MATLAB latest edition”. I was dumbstruck as I always hated coding (being a BTech graduate in Civil Engg.). I wish I had online courses which I could subscribe to, but I had no guidance during that time. With no options left, I dug deep, started learning from scratch, “how machine understands data” – that was my 1st learning chapter. Over the period of next one year of M. Tech, I had five publications in reputed journals of ASTM, ASCE & CATENA as first author, all thanks to this skill-set! I started realizing its importance and decided to pursue Data Science role in the industry instead of PHD. That was one of the toughest choices of my life as I had met all the requirements of pursuing PHD from tier-1 institutes in the world. However, in the industry, things were very different (I had a civil engineering degree!) but I had to adjust quickly, because there was no other option. I have worked with clients from various verticals of supply chain, document digitization, finance, retail etc. I had started training professionals across India, USA, UK, South Africa, Ukraine etc. during weekends for part-time earning as well. I have trained/mentored around 1500+ working professionals/professors/students with an engagement of 1000+ hours. I would like to attribute a major part of my success to my mentors who encouraged me in my journey. Over my tenure in the industry, I have realized that the skill-set of analysing data has become the need of the hour. Data Analytics is no longer just a career profile, it has become a pre-requisite skill-set which everyone needs to have for a proper career growth in today’s world. I strongly believe that data analytics is completely field agnostic as evident from the innumerable examples of people from commerce and arts backgrounds using this skill-set to grow immensely in their respective fields of expertise. Hence, anyone from any background can learn this skill-set and add value to their profile and help businesses grow by deriving insights from data. But it is true that if you do not take the right approach, you WILL have a hard time. However, I truly believe that if I can do it, anyone can do it, with the kind of mentorship that I had received during my initial days (and now as well!).
With good faith in my industry and training experience, I have started an initiative with one my closest seniors from NIT Silchar. We, at Eduviden, aim to educate various cohorts (graduates from any educational background, working professionals etc.) on real world applications of analytical concepts and also provide a roadmap pertaining to various career choices in data science, thereby helping people to make informed decisions. I understand that the first obstacle which people face is coding/programming; especially when they do not have an engineering background. In view of that, we are launching a series of free videos in you tube where we will explore case studies from various verticals of sports, health, life science, e-commerce, finance and many more. The first case study is on cricket analytics! Sports is an industry where the demand of analytics has increased manifold, especially in cricket! When one makes an earnest effort to learn coding, it becomes a level playing field!
1. The numbers which you see on screen during a match; how are they calculated and what’s the accuracy?
2. How does the win% prediction work?
3. What is the impact of analytics on player selection?
4. Virtual match-up between legendary cricketers – Ganguly vs Dhoni, Sachin vs Virat, AB de Villiers vs Malinga etc.
5. How do IPL teams decide to buy and auction players? How is the price decided?
The answers to all these questions can be found in analysing comprehensive data which will be done over the next series of videos. Our first playlist covers an interesting case study of analysing performances of cricket legends across different era (for e.g., Ganguly vs Dhoni)! The case study has been split into 5 parts of 10 minutes each.
We will also create videos on case studies for students/working professionals who do not have any coding experience at all. The code will be written LIVE so that viewers can understand the thought process behind analysing data.
