Inclusion is a one of its kind initiative by LEADearthSHIP fellows which aims to create environmental awareness among differently abled individuals with focus on hearing and speech impaired, visually impaired and orthopedically handicapped through disability specific activities and targeted videos in sign language, audios and braille boards. es Institute (TERI) and Tetra Pak India on leadership and business sustainability which intends to build competencies that integrate sustainability in thought and practice in the careers the youth of today choose for undergraduate and post graduate students from Delhi NCR and Pune. We are going around the city conducting environmental awareness campaigns in special schools and NGOs for the differently abled students which includes interactive sessions, surveys, awareness activities and improvement testing. The Need for this project:
According to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disability (CRPD) by the United Nations one of the eight principles state full and effective participation and inclusion of disabled individuals in the society. There are around 21 Billion disabled people in India as per Census 2001 of which around 21% lie in the age group of 12-21 years as per a recent survey. Responsibility can only be taken if there is awareness about it, and the target audience of this project hasn’t been educated enough about their responsibility. By educating the members of the disabled community about the environment, we hope to teach them about their responsibility and give them an equal opportunity to fulfill it.
