Many parents wait for words to come, but speech development actually begins much earlier. Before a child starts speaking, they develop important foundation skills that make communication possible.

✨ Focus on these key skills:

🔹 Joint Attention – When a child shares focus with you on an object or activity
🔹 Gestures – Pointing, waving, showing needs without words
🔹 Imitation – Copying actions, sounds, and expressions
🔹 Intentionality – Communicating with a purpose (to request, protest, or share)
🔹 Looking & Listening – Paying attention to people, sounds, and surroundings
🔹 Turn Taking – Back-and-forth interaction during play or communication

💡 These skills work in a cycle each one supports the other and helps your child move closer to meaningful speech.
