The society was established with the view to provide an open platform to the researchers in various disciplines of Botany, Plant Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Plant Biotechnology etc. Besides this, organizing Conferences and Workshops under the aegis of Society for Plant Research was an essential activity to facilitate scientific discussions, exchange of view and interaction among scientists. Publication of research journal VEGETOS was also initiated in the year 1988. The journal VEGETOS started its publication in 1988 with usual ups and down amidst some dust of hurdles but no body ever dreamed that this journal will achieve International recognition and will become the most trusted and loved periodical of Plant Sciences and Biotechnology. Since its beginning, many internationally recognized scientists like Prof H S Srivastava, Prof K S Bilgrami, Prof K S Bhargava, Prof C P Mallick, Prof B D Singh, Prof L M S Palni, Prof M P Yadav, Prof H D Kumar, Prof B R Chaudhary, Prof B M Johri, Prof P K Gupta, Prof R K Gupta, Prof M N Noor and many more renowned signatures of plant sciences guided us for further improvement. With an initial membership of 11 persons it has now reached more than 1800 from India and abroad. The Executive Body of SPR is pleased to announce that the journal VEGETOS, which was started in the year 1988, is now being processed, published and marketed by the global publisher SpringerNature since January 2019 thus strengthening its global authorship. VEGETOS is publishing research articles in all branches of plant science and associated branches of frontier sciences like Plant Biotechnology, Nanotechnology, Genome sequencing etc. We publish Review articles on specific topics by invitation only. For submission, the scientists may visit the websites www.vegetosindia.org or www.springer.com .
Join us for an inspiring series of lectures by distinguished SPR Fellow Awardees and Best Doctoral Thesis Awardees from renowned universities and research institutions across India and abroad.

International Conference by Society for Plant Research (VEGETOS) and Rajagiri College Concludes Successfully
The first three-day International Conference organized by the Department of Biosciences, Rajagiri College, Kochi, Kerala, India, in association with the Society for Plant Research (VEGETOS), concluded successfully with tremendous participation and highly valuable lectures delivered by renowned scientists from India and abroad.
During the inaugural session, Prof Subodh Bhatnagar and Dr Lysandro P Borges (UFS, Brazil) served as Chief Guests. The inaugural address was delivered by Fr Benny Nalkara, while the conference proceedings were released by Fr Saju MD. The welcome address was delivered by the Convener Dr S Antony Ceasar, and the vote of thanks was proposed by the Organizing Secretary Dr G Rajiv Gandhi.
Addressing the august gathering, Prof. Bhatnagar emphasized the urgent need to conserve the planetβs rich biodiversity, highlighting its vast potential in developing medicines for human health. He noted that while biotechnological interventions play a crucial role in conserving natural resources, increasing social awareness remains equally important. Dr. Borges stressed that while phytochemicals are valuable for disease management, greater focus must be placed on physical exercise and reducing sedentary lifestyles.
In his keynote address, Prof. Bhatnagar elaborated on publication ethics and the importance of maintaining high standards in research publications, rather than participating in the race for quantity over quality. He highlighted that earlier research work maintained exceptional quality even without impact factors, and that high-quality research naturally earns recognition and citations over time.
The conference featured sessions and addresses by distinguished scientists including Prof Ramaswamy Nanna, Dr Swapan K Ghosh, Dr Sulaiman CT, Dr Phalisteen Sultan, Prof R C Chaudhary, Prof Rakesh Gupta, Dr Rajesh Sharma, and Dr Rekha Kumari, along with many other eminent scientists from around the world.
Online presentations by Dr Georgios Koubouris (Greece) and Dr Jonas Sagbo (United States) were well received and appreciated by delegates.
The valedictory session concluded with a comprehensive report presented by Convener Dr. Antony Ceasar, followed by concluding remarks from Prof. Bhatnagar and Prof. Ramaswamy Nanna. Delegates widely appreciated the warm local hospitality, the dedication of the faculty, and the exceptional efforts of the organizing team, particularly the tireless work of Dr. G. Rajiv Gandhi and his team. The proactive support extended by the college management was also acknowledged and received with great appreciation from all participants.
