This Ganesh Chaturthi we learnt a lot about how it is celebrated in Goa. Our Goan staff taught us how to make the different elements that go into the festival in Goa.

1. Decor and mandap made by using leaves and coconut shells
2. Group photo
3. The mandap
4 and 5. Learning how to weave leaves for the decor

Today we explored a big idea that play looks different for everyone in our Year 1 classroom.

Three mystery trays sat covered in cloth: one with loose parts, one with a ready-made toy, one empty. When asked which held the most play, the reasoning behind each choice was fascinating proving that sometimes the best toys aren't toys at all.

We then proceeded to question if games need rules to be fair? To find out, we improvised our own game of noughts and crosses, using loose parts and coloured bottle lids as playing pieces.

A reminder that curiosity and a few loose parts can build a whole world of learning and play.
