Itna toh har kisi ka haq hai.

We shot Ready Steady a few years ago- the students were in high school then. Now they're out of college and starting their workplace journeys.

We keep coming back to this poem. It reminds us that at the heart of education will Always lie the right to the question. It doesn't matter if it is allowed or not, encouraged or not, legitimised or not. It will always find its way to the surface- because really, there is only one way we begin to learn- by questioning.

They knew then, as they know now- it is their right to ask for things that have been assured to them by the constitution of this country, long before they were born.

Itna toh har kisi ka haq hai.

Humne zyada kabhi kuch nahi chaha
Sivaye azaad khayalon ke aur zehen ki safai ke
Jin gharon mein hum rehte hain wahan ki deewaron pe apni pasand ka rang karne ke alawa humne zyada kabhi kuch nahi chaha

Ishq ko samajhne se zyada ek dusre ki subchintak badhne se zyada humne kabhi kuch nahi chaha

Humare gharon mein jab humein tola jata hai har cheez ka ek sahi dhang bataya jata hai
Jab ammi ka rasoi mein aur papa ka pesha kuch bada bataya jata hai
Tab humne apni pehchan khud likhne ke alawa kabhi kuch nahi chaha

Bimar logon ke paas rehna jab hum bimar hon toh chaar logon ka humare paas hona
Isse zyada humne kabhi kuch nahi chaha

Azaadi ko kitabi maino se kuch zyada samajhna
Haq par har kisi ka barabar haq hona
Mandir masjid langar par sabka hissa
Humne isse zyada toh kabhi kuch nahi maanga

Aur itna toh har kisi ka haq hai
Aur zulm ke khilaf bol uthna siyasi nazmein likhna
Uss awaaz ko uthana jo dab jaati hai
Kya tera kya mera yeh na soch kar saath mein bagawat karna

Humne isse zyada toh kabhi kuch nahi maanga

Siyasi mujrimo ke lautne ki aas mein zaroori hai humara
haq hai humara sadko pe ja baithna

Ho sakta hai yeh kuch zyada khwahishein hon ek nainsaafi ke muashre mein
Par siyasi insaaf toh har kisi ka haq hai itna toh har kisi ke hisse mein hai

Our team and students are at protests across the country this week. True.
It's why our deadline is being extended. False.

DEADLINE EXTENDED
We have a decent number of applications
(more than 100 for our 12 slots!)
But there’s been a steady increase in the rate of
applications coming in.

Here's the thing: Most of our applicants are not on our social media. Orgs, educators and people like you are sending it out to possible applicants, they receive it, they go through it, they consult with their families and then they send in an application.

This cycle takes time. We’re opening it for another week for it to reach people whom it might not have reached till now. So, go ahead. Do your bit.

When we were told that modern education spaces should speak about AI and social media, we said yes. But we were radical about the how.

This has been a dream for us, and we are building it with as much care as it deserves. 6 month deep-dive learning, a small cohort from across the country, a studio to work out of, a cute house to live in. 100% scholarships. The kind of learning spaces that exist in dreams, except they shouldn't. Here's us changing that.

The street where you will find yourself.

From the bustling market city of Mapusa, you must make your way to the highway - one end of which takes you to Bombay and the other to Trivandrum. But you must head to neither end and instead cross the highway and hop onto the other side. You must not forget to look at the fields all around you and take the path that feels most worth taking. At some point the road turns and rises - and then it falls. At the fall, you could take any of the lefts, they all lead to a river - somewhere before the river is a chappel and a few steps before the chappel is a little house on a little street that hears a bunch of birds, a whole lot of dogs and a passing scooter every now and then.

This is the street where you will find yourself. Welcome to the Lighthouse Academy of Storytelling.

One of the lines we've heard most often since we've announced applications is this: How I wish this existed when I was 18.

In many ways, this is why LAOS has taken shape. To prove that spaces like this can exist for youth regardless of where they come from, the languages they speak, or the coins they've collected in their pockets.

Weve had some incredible applications coming in already. We will close applications on July 21st. Help spread the word!

Applications to the first crew cohort of Lighthouse Academy of Storytelling close 21st July! Applications have been pouring in and looks like we have a strong applicant pool already. Please help us make it stronger. Send the application form to someone you know this might be perfect for but we might not have been able to reach.

LAOS Applications Open!

We've had an incredible response to the application call so far. Youth have been writing in from all corners of the country. We want to ensure that we can reach as many people as possible. We're reviewing applications on a rolling basis!

Everytime someone somewhere opened a soda bottle, we captured some of the fizz and stored it in little balloons. The balloons collected themselves over time and notoriously decided to turn into a cloud. The cloud slowly floated across the country and nestled itself atop a Goan village known for its incredibly mischievous charm. In particular it came upon a deceptively shy white house which had a bunch of youngsters filming dreams inside. Here- as the the monsoon approached, it decided to burst open.

we're looking for a storyteller/teacher to lead the academy!

i remember the pitch i had made for the Circle Incubation for the academy back in 2022. the idea was simple. identify a small bunch of talented, high-potential young adults who want to make a living out of storytelling but don't have access to high-quality training. and create a dream space for them. residential, immersive, high-production. a space that would be a game-changer to work out of. a creative studio that had excellence, that had empathy, that had spark, that had rigour, that had love, a theatre to watch films, and inspiration all around. a lighthouse, that could serve as a benchmark for what is possible for young creatives in this country.

when we got on-ground to start, we realised there was work to do before we got there. (:

four years and many detours later, we're here. later this year, we will be going on-ground with our first residential academy batch nestled out of our beautiful goa studio. Before we open this up for the young adult crew who would like to come down - we're looking for a a vip - who will lead this crew!
