Remembering Savitribai Phule on her birth anniversary.

Savitribai Phule (1831–1897) was India’s first woman teacher, a pioneering social reformer, poet, and anti-caste activist. Along with Jyotirao Phule, she started the first school for girls in Pune and worked tirelessly for women’s education, Dalit rights, and social equality. She challenged caste oppression and patriarchal norms through education, writing, and activism, and is remembered as a symbol of courage, resistance, and social justice.

As part of the Savitribai Phule Lecture Series, a thought-provoking lecture on "Queering Citizenship in India: From Decriminalizing Homosexuality to the Struggle for Marriage Equality" was held.

The session featured Anjalee, Research Scholar at the Centre for Women's Studies, University of Hyderabad, who delved into the evolving landscape of LGBTQ+ rights in India, tracing the journey from decriminalization to the ongoing fight for marriage equality.
