Design for Densities

The Charles Correa Foundation is curating a National Architecture Workshop for young Architects and students of architecture & design with the intent to explore and ideate on the issue of housing in urban densities. DWELL 2014 will explore the many dimensions of designing a dwelling - a most basic unit - in an urban context.

Dates: November 6, 7, 8 and 9, 2014
Place: Charles Correa Foundation, Panaji, Goa.
Each Team: 2 Fresh Graduates, 3 to 4 Senior Students.

Each team is lead by a practising architect.

The Mappila Muslims are a minority community spread along the North-west coast of Kerala. This community was a result of intermarriages and conversions that took place when the Arab traders came to Kerala as early as the 7th century. The presentation looks at Mappila homes as a manifestation of the community’s unique cultural aspects built through regional construction techniques.
Bhavana Hameed graduated as an Architect from CEPT, Ahmedabad in 2009. Being a Mappila Muslim herself, she undertook a study of the Mappila Houses of Kuttichira as part of her Undergraduate Thesis course. The Presentation is mostly from her research work.
