Advantage of polymer in drug delivery?
There are several advantages of using polymers in drug delivery systems. Polymers offer controlled release of drugs, which can help maintain therapeutic drug levels in the body over an extended period of time. They can also protect drugs from degradation and improve their stability. Additionally, polymers can be designed to target specific tissues or cells in the body, reducing side effects and enhancing therapeutic efficacy. Non toxic, biodegradable and biocompatible polymers are smart polymers responsive to atmospheric stimulus like change in temperature; pressure, pH etc. thus are extremely beneficial for targeted drug delivery. Some polymeric systems conjugated with antibodies/specific biomarkers help in detecting molecular targets specifically in cancers. Surface coating with thiolated PEG, Silica-PEG improves water solubility and photo stability. Surface modification of drug carriers e.g. attachment with PEG or dextran to the lipid bilayer increases their blood circulation time. Overall, polymer-based drug delivery systems provide a versatile and effective approach to delivering drugs for various medical conditions.

Why Nano-technology is important?
Macro world is governed by Classical Mechanics. All the objects around us, abiding Newton’s laws of motion have prominent particle nature and insignificant wave length. According to De Broglie, subatomic particles and light (Photon) has quite significant wave nature associated and Heisenberg’s uncertainty Principle is applicable. Wave length of such visible light or subatomic particle is in the range of Å, i.e 10-10m. The nanometer is 10-9m, which is the threshold between wave nature and particle nature. It is the gateway between classical and Quantum mechanics. Particles in Nano dimension possess peculiar and special behaviour which cannot be seen in larger size, therefore, nano-particle, nano-tube has got ample number of applications in Science and Engineering
