A few questions to a final year student;

Q: What is Microkrete?
A: A cement based concrete to repair micro cracks and jacketing.
Q: What is Corroprotect?
A: A special additive to protect steel from corrosion inside the concrete.
Q: What is Basekrete?
A: A mortar used for repairing and other types of masonry work.
Q: From where have you heard about these?
A: I haven't just heard about them, I have seen their practical use.
Q: How? These are the advancements happening in the concrete industry, and without even working in the industry, how did you get so much knowledge about them?
A: Well, in the Civil Engineering Department, Dr B C Roy Engineering College, Durgapur , we have a Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Construction Materials by Ultratech Cement Ltd., where all of these products along with many other products and their models are present for our students. I am very proud of it.

Soil is a three-phase system consisting of solid grains, water, and air. Its engineering behavior depends on the proportions of these phases.

​Key Ratios

​Void Ratio (e): Volume of voids / Volume of solids. High e means loose, compressible soil.

​Porosity (n): Volume of voids / Total volume. Indicates the soil's storage capacity for fluids.

​Water Content (w): Weight of water / Weight of solids. Dictates how "plastic" or soft clayey soil becomes.

​Saturation (S): Percentage of void space filled with water. A value of 100% means the soil is fully saturated (critical for stability analysis).

​Engineering Impact-
​These ratios determine density, shear strength, and settlement. By calculating them, engineers decide if a soil can support a foundation or if it requires compaction and stabilization.
