Mining Engineering, ISM Dhanbad The Department of Mining Engineering was established in 1926 with the founding of the School in that year by the Viceroy of India, Lord Irwin.

Over the Past 84 years, it has developed and grown to become the largest Department of its kind in the country with excellent facilities for teaching and research and widespread activities in both coal and non-coal/metalliferous mining sectors. Its high reputation attracts students from all parts of India as well as from abroad. The Department has been recognized as a QIP Centre for the faculty me

mbers of other Mining Engineering Departments of the country to pursue higher studies. The Department has been accorded the status of “Centre of Advanced Studies” in Mining Engineering by the University Grant Commission, in recognition of its high standards of teaching, research and services to the mining industry. The students passing out from this Department have traditionally occupied top positions in the government departments as well as in the mining industry, both in India and abroad. The posts of Director-General of Mines Safety; Chairmen and Managing Directors of most of the mining companies and top executives of many other companies, both in the public and private sectors, have been traditionally occupied by the ex-students of the Department. Over 400 ex-students of Indian School of Mines (ISM) are working in the USA and other countries, in high positions.

SME IIT - ISM Student Chapter in association with department of Mining Engineering, IIT-ISM Dhanbad presents you the biggest mining fest of the nation during August 25-27. Khanan is honoured to welcome Shri N. Kumar : Director (Technical, CIL) & Chairman cm Managing Director: BCCL, as our Chief Guest.

An Indian School Of Mines, Dhanbad Alumnus of 1980 batch, he has spent most of his career reviving difficult Underground and Opencast mines taking use of almost all kind of mechanization. He was actively associated with indigenization of Long Wall Equipment and has presented a number of papers on its successful implementation.

His latest achievement is the successful operation of Continuous Miner in Jhanjra Area matching World Standards in production and safety.

The SME ISM Student Chapter and Department of Mining Engineering, ISM Dhanbad proudly presents Khanan'16.

It would be a 3-day National Mining Tech- Fest to be organized between September 2-4 at GJLT, ISM Dhanbad.

The festival would mark the presence of students from various prestigious institutes all over the country and also the distinguished dignitaries from Mining and allied industries who will be sharing their experiences with the participants. A plethora of technical events – Competitions, workshop, guest lectures, paper meet and exhibition will be held during the tech-fest.

It would provide a real life environment to the aspiring Mining & Earth Science students and would expose them to the real world problems and challenges in the industry.
