That’s how scientists and researchers have revealed just how incredibly complex some underground ant colonies can be.

Concrete was allowed to flow through the colony’s underground passages before hardening. After the surrounding soil was carefully removed, the result revealed an astonishing network of interconnected tunnels, chambers and ventilation passages. 🐜🏗️

Some colonies can also contain specialized areas used for food storage and fungus cultivation, turning the underground network into a highly organized system.

On large ships, the anchor itself can weigh several tonnes, while the heavy anchor chain can add tens of tonnes more.

But the real danger comes when the anchor is released. As the chain runs rapidly through the windlass and hawse pipe, huge forces and moving equipment are involved. The combination of heavy chain, speed and stored energy makes the area around the anchoring equipment extremely dangerous. 😨

That’s why crew members follow strict safety procedures and stay clear of the danger zone while the anchor is being deployed.

These Colors Can Mix… Then Separate Again! 🤯🌈

Can three different colors mix together and then appear to separate again? 😳

It looks like magic, but the science behind it is laminar flow. 🔬

When a thick liquid moves in smooth layers, the layers can slide past each other with very little mixing between them.

In a carefully controlled flow, rotating the liquid one way can stretch and distribute the colored layers, making the colors appear completely mixed. But when the flow is reversed, those layers can move back toward their original arrangement — making the colors appear to separate again! 🤯

The fascinating part is that the colors haven't magically “unmixed.” The motion of the liquid has simply rearranged the colored layers in a way that can be reversed.

This is a beautiful demonstration of fluid dynamics and reversible flow! 🌊🧪
