A Session I’ll Remember for a Long Time. 🙌
Some sessions are not just about learning a strategy or understanding a fund—they give you a completely different perspective on markets, investing and the journey of building an institution.
I had the privilege of attending a truly insightful session with Mr. Vikas Khameni, CEO & Founder of Carnelian, and it was an incredible learning experience.
What made the session special was the depth of discussion—from understanding private equity and the evolving Indian private markets to how fund selection actually works behind the scenes, the thought process behind investment strategies, and the intricacies of entry, portfolio construction and exits.
One of the most fascinating perspectives was looking at India’s next 25 years through the lens of the last 25 years—and understanding how private capital can play a critical role when Indian businesses enter their next phase of growth.
The journey itself was inspiring—from leaving a successful CEO role and starting his own fund with around ₹135 crore in 2019, to building it into an institution managing around ₹21,000 crore, and now expanding further into private equity and launching a mutual fund.
But beyond the numbers and strategies, what stood out to me was the humbleness and willingness to answer every question in such detail.
It was a long session, but honestly, it felt like one of those conversations where you could just keep listening and learning.
I also got a fascinating perspective on how India’s private market is evolving and how the ecosystem could develop as more Indian companies require growth capital. The comparison of where India’s private markets stand today with the stage the US was at decades ago was particularly thought-provoking.
Thank you, Sir, for sharing not just your knowledge, but also your journey and perspective on markets and investing.
A great reminder that in finance, the more you learn, the more you realise how much there is still to learn. 📚📈
