Applications are welcome from individuals who have a minimum education of 10+2, or BPP pass from IGNOU. There is an additional requirement that candidates have experience of working with individuals with autism or ASD either as a Teacher, Special Educator, Vocational Instructor, Psychologist, Counsellor, Therapist, Social Worker or Medical Doctor or by the recommendation and consent of head of Institution/Instructor. In addition to professionals, applications are welcome from parents or family members of an individual with autism or ASD. Applicants must meet the minimum educational levels detailed above. Expectations & Overview
This programme will be delivered predominantly on-line. On-line work can be supplemented with face-to-face teaching. It is an expectation that students will have access to a computer and the internet. Resources will be made available on-line and students will be required to log a minimum of 3 times a week. It should be expected that the programme will take a minimum of 4-5 hours a week. This will be a combination of reading and assimilating provided information, contribution to on-line forum - in order to develop thinking, share ideas, experience and learning with other programme students, independent research and completion of assignments. Students who do not currently have a personal mail account may get a MCS account through Computer Services Division. Short sessions on learning internet operation are offered through the Manovikas Community College. In addition students may register for an account through a web mail service such as Google.com. Any assignments can be sent to the instructor via electronic mail. Although extensive information will be provided there is, in addition, much information published about autism spectrum disorders. It is recommended that the student completes readings and research outside the course materials to gain a fuller understanding of these disorders and the variety of interventions. In addition to the theoretically learning learners are expected to identify a suitable establishment, where they are able to observe individuals with autism or Asperger’s in order to develop and enhance their learning. The establishment should be willing for the student to implement their learning. The teaching / learning process is two way, therefore in addition to expectations of the students, students will also have expectations of MCC. MCC will ensure that there is a prompt response to queries, high quality of teaching, accurate and honesty feedback of progress and student’s learning will be facilitated to the best of our ability. Autism, Asperger syndrome, and PDD-NOS are sometimes called the autistic disorders instead of ASD, whereas autism itself is often called autistic disorder, childhood autism, or infantile autism. Although the older term pervasive developmental disorder and the newer term autism spectrum disorder largely or entirely overlap, the former was intended to describe a specific set of diagnostic labels, whereas the latter refers to a postulated spectrum disorder linking various conditions. ASD, in turn, is a subset of the broader autism phenotype (BAP), which describes individuals who may not have ASD but do have autistic-like traits, such as avoiding eye contact.
