From one scientist to another scientist :

*Rutherford’s Letter to Raman (1937) In one of the final chapters of his life, Ernest Rutherford wrote a remarkable letter to C. V. Raman on 3 August 1937.* This correspondence stands out not only for its timing—just weeks before Rutherford’s passing—but also for its tone, which was notably formal yet deeply humane. The letter came at a sensitive moment, shortly after Raman had stepped down as Director of the Indian Institute of Science following a challenging and turbulent tenure. Acknowledging the burdens of leadership, Rutherford gently reflected on how responsibility often brings misunderstandings in its wake. Yet, he reassured Raman that beyond administrative struggles, the true spirit of a scientist remains untouched. Rutherford also expressed a desire to visit India—a journey that, sadly, never materialized. Just over two months later, on 19 October 1937, Rutherford passed away, leaving behind a towering legacy in the exploration of the subatomic world.

Time flies, memories remain.
