Five “C”s of a Healthy Relationship

The first “C” is Consistency: your partner behaves in a predictable and reliable manner over time. This creates a sense of security and peace of mind in the relationship.

The second “C” is Commitment: commitment means that your partner actively works to resolve problems in the relationship and treats you with respect throughout the process.

The third “C” is Caring. The essential question you must answer honestly is: Does my partner truly care about me? Caring implies that your beliefs and feelings are valued as much as your partner’s. It also means that your partner supports and encourages your personal growth.

Control is not one of the “C”s. In a controlling relationship, major life decisions—such as what car you will drive, what job you will have, or how many children you will have—are made by your partner in the name of “caring.” This is not care. A caring partner consults you on important life decisions and genuinely seeks to understand your feelings.

The fourth “C” of a healthy relationship is Compatibility : a relationship becomes much easier to nurture when both partners share similar goals, values, and interests in life.

The fifth “C” is Compromise: it is not about who won the last argument or who lost a decision. It is about how well you work together with firmness and flexibility. In a healthy relationship, compromise ultimately wins—and that, in itself, is a meaningful victory.
