Why this Nature gene focused on cousin marriages in Pakistan and not mice.
Nearly 34,000 people in Pakistan are “human knockouts,” that is, people who have lost the function of at least one gene.
These findings are part of one of the largest South Asian genomic studies, which analysed 173,303 genomes from the country.
Children of closely related parents inherit similar genetic mutations, including ones where certain genes are deactivated. Such “knock out” cases allow scientists the opportunity to see how a human being functions without a particular gene, and whether there are certain genes that can be “switched off” to treat diseases.
Researchers found that one in nearly every five people in the Pakistan Genome Resource is missing at least one gene.
Over the course of the study, they identified almost 6,500 genes which had switched off.

Look at the impact of your physical activity on your bones: It directly stimulates bone-building cells (osteoblasts) and bone density. So, to increase bone density effectively, combine two primary methods: weight-bearing exercises (working against gravity) and resistance training (muscle-strengthening).

Aisha Mustafa gained international media attention for proposing a propulsion concept involving quantum principles and electromagnetic systems for spacecraft movement.
The idea was presented as a possible alternative propulsion method that could reduce or eliminate traditional fuel use for certain space applications.
However, no publicly verified working spacecraft propulsion system based on the concept has been demonstrated or adopted by major space agencies.
Many experimental propulsion ideas receive patents or conceptual recognition without necessarily becoming practical engineering systems.
Spacecraft propulsion remains one of the most challenging fields in aerospace engineering because moving objects in space still fundamentally requires momentum exchange according to known physics.
The story nevertheless inspired interest in young scientific innovation and advanced space technology concepts.

Many people whether in academia, research and other society think that publishing research papers and classroom teaching are two different responsibilities.
But honestly saying, if you can understand the fact and do insightful thinking, the real strength of people from academia and research are, when they create knowledge through scientific experimentation and then sharing of this knowledge with others through publication, lecture, teaching, etc.
This sharing of knowledge go hand in hand, never in isolation, that creates opportunity for technology development, manufacturing, empowering society and so on.
Therefore, research keeps a scientist and professor intellectually active and society builders.
Continuous research, publishing new knowledge and teaching keeps a researcher and professor grounded and purposeful.
One creates knowledge, and the other transfers it to the next generation, students, research scholars, young faculty.
Some scientists and teachers publish papers, whereas some of them patiently explaining these concepts every day through teaching, motivating weak bright and motivated students, giving confidence to confused minds, and making learning meaningful – this too is no less than a research contribution and great social work for making our society prosperous.
Because ultimately, Research creates knowledge, new invention, discovery, and educated people, many opportunities to them and then better society and equality, too among ourselves.
So, scientific research and education is very much important resource for society and nation just like other resources important for our life.

How women in Morocco are turning desert fig into drinking water.
In the drought-ridden Anti-Atlas Mountains of Morocco, women have adopted fog-harvesting technology to extract potable water from clouds that pass over the fringes of the Sahara Desert.
