Doomsday Surfing

It is the tendency to scroll through bad news even though the news is saddening or depressing. The term Doomsday Surfing is one of the new lexicon of words the COVID-19 has introduced into the daily lives of man.

This is done by almost every human being on the earth. People in the age group of 15 years to 30 years are surfing to seek help. On the other hand, the people in the age group of 30 years to 45 years are blaming others on social media. On the brighter side, the senior age people are trying to spread positivity and spirituality.

UV Sanitisation Box & Hand-held UV device:

Defence Institute of Physiology & Allied Sciences (DIPAS) and Institute of Nuclear Medicine & Allied Sciences (INMAS) have designed & developed Ultraviolet C Light-based sanitization box and handheld UV-C (ultraviolet light with wavelength 254 nanometres) device.
The UV-C will destroy genetic material in COVID-19. The radiation warps the structure RNA which prevents the viral particles from making more copies of themselves. This is environment friendly and is a contact-free effective sanitization method.

POOL TESTING

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has advised the feasibility of using pooled samples for molecular testing of Covid-19 citing the rise of cases in India.

METHOD :
1: A pooled testing algorithm involves the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) screening of a specimen pool comprising multiple individual patient specimens, followed by individual testing (pool de-convolution) ONLY IF a pool screens positive.

2: As all individual samples in a negative pool are regarded as negative, it results in substantial cost savings when a large proportion of pools tests negative.

3: This method is effective in two ways. First, it increases the capacity of testing and second, it saves a lot of resources — time, cost and manpower.

4: UP is the first state to start pool test

REMOTE MONITOR FOR COVID 19 CASE -

Recently, Bharat Electronics Ltd. and the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Rishikesh, have jointly developed a remote patient health monitoring system.

Use: The remote patient health monitoring system can be installed at homes or hospitals premises to reduce the risk of exposure to healthcare workers to Covid-19 while attending to persons undergoing isolation.

Features: The device has non-invasive sensors and it measures temperature, pulse rate, saturated oxygen level, and respiration rate.

Benefit: The system will also help to generate hot spots using the system’s data analytics software so that authorities can contain these zones

Functioning: A mobile app and Web browser have been developed. People who show symptoms of infection get enrolled with AIIMS - Rishikesh.

Hydroxy-chloroquine

Hydroxy-chloroquine is an oral drug used in the treatment of malaria and some autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis.
Malaria is a disease caused by mosquito bite of female Anopheles and spreads through parasites.
Autoimmune diseases are in which the body's immune system attacks healthy cells.
Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic inflammatory disorder affecting many joints, including those in the hands and feet.
Hydroxy-chloroquine against COVID-19:
Recent studies show that the HCQ drug alone or in combination with azithromycin appears to reduce the virus quickly.
Further, the study suggests that prophylaxis (treatment given to prevent disease) with hydroxy-chloroquine at approved doses could prevent SARS-CoV-2 infection.
Although the drug has some side effects, it is linked to instances of cardiac arrhythmia and liver damage. Wide use may handicap the people’s ability to fight the disease....
