Amino acids building blocks of proteins
13/03/2026
Proteins are the building blocks of life, empowering our bodies to thrive and flourish. As the most abundant biomolecules in living systems, they play a vital role in our growth, repair, and overall well-being. Rich sources of proteins include milk, cheese, pulses, peanuts, fish, and meat, providing us with the essential nutrients we need to live our best lives. The term "protein" originates from the Greek word proteios, signifying its primary importance in our bodies. Composed of α-amino acids, proteins are dynamic polymers that hold immense potential for positive change in our understanding of human health and wellness. Amino acids, the fundamental components of proteins, contain two crucial functional groups: an amino group (–NH₂) and a carboxyl group (–COOH), which work together in harmony to sustain life. Depending on the position of the amino group relative to the carboxyl group, amino acids can be classified as α, β, γ, δ, etc., with α-amino acids being the primary source obtained from protein hydrolysis, unlocking new avenues for scientific discovery and innovation.
