It was yet another memorable day for the Uttaranchal University as its four constituent colleges, namely, University Polytechnic, School of Hospitality Management, School of Media and Communication Studies and School of Liberal Arts joined hands together and organized a webinar on a highly talked about and contemporary topic of “Curbing Gender Bias and Breaking Gender Stereotypes- the pathway to Gender Equality” on July 21, 2020. The Guest Speaker of the webinar was a very distinguished personality Ms. Priyaa Arya, the founder of “Smilofy” and a versatile multi faceted person who is an educationist, a mentor, a counselor, trainer, actor, writer and a director.

The webinar started with the host of the program Ms. Smriti Uniyal inviting Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of Uttaranchal University to welcome the Guest Speaker. In his short address Prof. (Dr.) Rajesh Bahuguna highlighted the need of making the society free of any kind of gender bias and creating a world of equality where both men and women are given equal rights and opportunities to express themselves and are considered equal to their respective counterparts.

Ms. Priyaa Arya started with explaining how people go wrong in interpreting the very fundamental meaning of the topic itself. She explained how the freedom of women was in no way in conflict with that of the men and vice versa. She also stressed upon the need of ending the competition between the two sexes and starting an era of harmony through an amalgamation of brighter aspects of both the genders. The speaker threw open the webinar for an open discussion with all the participants and also invited questions from everyone which she answered with fervor and sincerity. It would be relevant to mention here that there was a participation of more than two hundred participants in the webinar.

The webinar concluded with a Vote of Thanks proposed by Mr. Manish Badoni, Director – SHM, who expressed his gratitude to the speaker for taking time out from a busy schedule to address the audience on such a sensitive topic.
