Leveraging tech solutions & community-led interventions to develop children's foundational skills.

ThinkZone is a social enterprise that works towards improving the learning outcomes of children from under-resourced communities. ThinkZone utilizes offline-enabled mobile application solutions for training and equipping youth to become educators. Through ThinkZone's data-driven technology and research-based methodology on learning, youth support children in their communities to develop age-based competencies. We also use voice & SMS-based low-cost technology to provide free, interactive learning resources for families. We work with communities to support at-home learning for children aged 3-10 years.

The NIPUN Odisha App was designed and developed by ThinkZone in collaboration with OSEPA and Central Square Foundation to make information useful at every level of the education system.

Observations and assessments contribute to dashboards used at the block, district, and state levels, while the same records remain accessible to the teachers and CRCCs who generated them.

This creates a shared view of what is happening in classrooms, helping different levels of the system use the same information to understand where support may be needed.

Standing with teachers means strengthening the conditions in which they teach.

On World Teachers’ Day 2026, we reflect on the role teachers play in shaping not just what children learn, but how they experience learning every day.

This year’s UN theme for World Teachers’ Day, “Standing with teachers: 60 years of protecting the profession, advancing its status and shaping our futures,” is a reminder that supporting teachers goes beyond recognising their work. It means listening to their needs, strengthening their professional capacity, and giving them the tools and support they need to do their work well.

At ThinkZone, this is central to how we think about education technology. Technology should work alongside teachers, fit into their existing workflows, and make it easier to support every child’s learning.

This World Teachers’ Day, we celebrate the teachers who make learning possible and reaffirm the importance of building education systems that stand with them.

On Gandhi Jayanti, we remember Mahatma Gandhi and the values he placed at the centre of public life: truth, simplicity, dignity, and service.

His belief in the strength of ordinary people and communities continues to offer a powerful way of thinking about change. Lasting progress is not built only through big ideas, but through everyday actions, collective responsibility, and a willingness to serve others.

Today, we remember those values and the responsibility they place on each of us.

Today we’re celebrating Swetabaha Swain's another year with ThinkZone.

From leading sessions with educators and conducting trainings to developing learning content, Swetabaha has contributed across many parts of our program.

Here’s to another year of bringing good ideas into the room, asking the right questions, and strengthening our work through everything we learn along the way.

Our teacher training sessions leave plenty of room for teachers to share what they see in their classrooms, discuss challenges, question ideas, and learn from one another.

These spaces open up a larger discussion about what children need and what might work in a particular classroom.

We learn from these conversations too. They help us understand what teachers are dealing with on the ground and keep our support connected to their everyday realities.

When you have 40–50 children in one classroom, there is only so much you can see within those four walls.

Recently, ThinkZone’s program coordinator, Lalit, was speaking to a teacher about how her students’ parents had been responding to PRAKASHAK home-based activities. She told him that she had noticed a change in the way parents were engaging with their children’s learning. They were trying the activities at home, asking children about what they had learned, and taking a more active interest in what was happening in the classroom.

And she could see that interest coming back into her classroom.

Children were arriving with stories to share. Some would talk about an activity they had tried at home. Others would be curious about what they were going to learn next. The teacher found that she no longer had to start every conversation about learning herself. There was already something to build on.

For her, PRAKASHAK had created a connection between the classroom and what happened after school. The activities gave parents something concrete to do with their children, while giving teachers another window into how children were learning beyond the school day.

Why does Bina Didi speak Odia?

For a child in Odisha, Odia is often the language they are most comfortable with. It is the language they use to talk, ask questions, and make sense of the world around them.

When children learn in a familiar language, they can focus on the activity itself rather than first trying to understand the language being used. This matters especially in the early years, which is why NEP 2020 recognises the importance of learning in a child’s home or familiar language.

Yet much of the technology built for education in India still does not reflect the languages children use at home.

Bina Didi does. Co-developed with the Government of Odisha, she speaks to children and families in Odia, making learning easier to understand and more familiar from the start.

Today’s Creative Corner brings us a fun way to learn Odia letters

As part of a PRAKASHAK activity, children used pulses to form Odia letters, turning a familiar household ingredient into a hands-on language activity. With their parents guiding them, they arranged the pulses to trace the shapes of the letters and practise them through making.

For children, activities like these can make letter learning more engaging because they get to see, touch, and build the letters themselves. They also give parents an easy way to be part of their child’s learning without needing special materials or a classroom setup.

Itishree Behera has been part of ThinkZone through many stages of our journey, growing alongside the organisation and taking on new responsibilities as we’ve evolved.

Over the years, she has worked closely with programmes, helped shape how our work is designed and delivered, supported teams through different challenges, and grown into an important role in shaping the organisation’s direction.

We’re grateful for the perspective, commitment, and care she has brought to ThinkZone over the years.

“You don’t need fancy gadgets or expensive toys. You don’t need to be perfect. You just need to be present.”

This message from UNICEF India's article Play, Love, Learn: Everyday Tips for Parents to Help Children Grow, captures something we strongly believe at the heart of PRAKASHAK: parents don’t need to be experts or have special resources to support their children’s learning.

They need simple, manageable ways to engage with their child using what they already have: a little time, everyday materials, and their own language.

PRAKASHAK brings learning into these everyday moments through simple, guided activities that parents can do with their children at home.
