Finding the right students is more than just reviewing applications — it’s a deeply personal, hands-on process. At Culvee India Charitable Trust, we spend months getting to know our applicants, visiting schools and homes to understand their dreams, challenges, and determination. This journey helps us ensure our scholarships reach those who truly need and deserve them.

Culvee Day #5 (7 years of Culvee) - 121 students

We learn something new every time we do student interviews for Culvee. Here are some from today's interviews (which are all virtual):

1. Children of Sri Lankan refugees born in India don't automatically get Indian citizenship. Spoke to a student student whose family were an agricultural family and were fairly well to do there. Her father is now a construction worker. The student doesn't qualify for govt aid or jobs, even though she know of no other country other than India.

2. We spoke to a student who runs his own YouTube channel for science experiments (one of his videos has 5k views). He did all that with his limited resources and things he learned from YouTube

3. We spoke to another student who has a black belt in Karate and wants to be a fashion designer.

We love how inspiring these students are. Makes us want to double our efforts.

This year's interviews are happening as a combination of in-person and video conferencing.

Application review season for 2022 batch

It's November and we are hearing about how many of the government schools in Coimbatore still don't have regular classes. In one of the schools that was trying some online learning, only 3 students are able to join (from their mobile phones). The impact of Covid is beyond just this year for the students going through their 12th.

Same for our final year students. Campus recruitment is much lower than last year.

Culvee is updating it's application process to suit the new reality.
