HOW TO BEAT EXAM STRESS?

With exams just around the corner, one problem that every child face is stress and pressure of exams. So todays we will be giving you some tips to deal with it.

TIP 1: CLEAN YOUR ROOM/DESK
“A cluttered desk is a cluttered mind”. It has been scientifically proven that if your study desk is messy, i.e. having books unarranged, pen & pencil lying around here and there etc. it can hamper your ability to concentrate on one task. As it will increase your chances to getting distracted easily.

TIP 2: REDUCE YOUR SUGAR INTAKE
As the saying goes “Sugar is poison”. Studies have shown that when you’re stressed your body releases a stress hormone ‘cortisol’ to deal with the stress. But Cortisol also tends to affect your body sugar, so the more your sugars spike the more stress you feel.

TIP 3: HAVE A HEALTHY BREAKFAST.
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. What you eat for breakfast has an effect on your mood and energy levels throughout the day.

TIP 4: REDUCE YOUR PHONE USAGE
Research has shown that excess of Mobile Phone usage not only causes stress but also has a negative impact on your mental health.
Here are a few things that you can do:
- Check your phone once a day.
- Keep phone on autopilot mode while studying
- Turn off all notifications.

TIP 5: ANCHORING TECHINIQUE
Research suggest that brain chemicals like serotonin will create a sense of wellbeing and help your brain perform at peak level.
As stress tends to reduce serotonin levels in the brain there by affecting our performance levels. Psychologist have suggested a technique called “Anchoring” which will help you increase your serotonin levels in the brain. In when even we are stressed, think of a happy memory, or something fun that you recently did with your family. This will increase your serotonin levels and reduce your nervousness.

TIP 6: GET SUNLIGHT
Another way to increase serotonin is to get some sunlight. 5-15min of sunlight daily is enough to increase your serotonin levels.

TIP 7: LEARN TO APPLY TIME MANAGEMENT TECHNIQUE
Students who know how to manage time tend to be less stressed during exams.
Here are a few techniques:
- Stop using social media.
- Set deadlines
- Work in blocks of 40-50 mins and then take a break for 10-15 mins
- If your feeling unmotivated to study – put a timer for 2 mins and tell yourself you have to study for just this time chances are you will start work and study more then just 2 mins.
- Before beginning to study write down what you have to do.
- Find out what time of the day your more productive and do the hardest subject that time.
- Put a clock on your table – will help to focus.

TIP 8: WRITE DOWN WHAT YOUR WORRIED ABOUT
According to research just writing down what your worried about will help in reducing your stress and improve your grades.

TIP 9: LISTEN TO QUITE AND CALM MUSIC
Listening to music has a relaxing effect on our body and minds and reduces our stress levels. Set aside 10min a day to listen to soothing classical music.

TIP 10: DON’T MULTI TASK
Multitasking is bad for your health – it increases your heart rate, blood pressure and makes your more stressed.

TIP 11: GET GOOD SLEEP
Getting a good night’s sleep before exams is very import. It will keep your mind fresh and relaxed before .
