A second significant award for a researcher at The Group of Eight research powerhouse member The Australian National University in two days! This time the Go8 congratulates Dr Samantha McGaughey, a Postdoctoral Research fellow at the ANU Research School of Biology, on being named the ACT Emerging Scientist of the Year for 2025.

Dr McGaughey researches innovative wastewater technologies that aim to advance global efforts in environmental sustainability, water security and resource recovery. She’s also part of the team who founded the ANU spinout Membrane Transporter Engineers that has just been named one of the 23 homegrown deep tech startups announced for this year’s Cicada x Tech23.
