MOUNA VRATAM/VOW OF SILENCE

Ramana Maharshi pointed out even if we resolve to observe silence our mind continues to chatter, jumping incoherently from topic to topic.

The subtle and elusive challenge of the vow of silence begins only at this point: how to silence this endless inner chatter?

When we take a vow of silence-say, for a day and are able to adhere to it we must be able to identify the variations in the intensity of the inner urge to break the silence and break out of it . Maybe, it does not come in a single spell: for some it will be within a few spells and for others it may take a few more.

It will also show us not only subjects that tempt us to speak out, but also to act. These subjects/points, if reflected upon, can give us insights into our motivational profiles with reference to our inner psychodynamics.

Let me try and share.

I have plenty of empty time on hand. Have been writing books of my own. About half a dozen of them are stuck up en route-like the proverbial Thiruvaarur Temple Car. Each was begun with enthusiasm and lost momentum after going various distances. The salient reason for this loss of momentum was that they hit a spot which required further work--reading--on my part.
An adventure into my own psyche will not meet with such an external block. It will not require further reading. Sure, such an adventure is bound to meet with blocks within--thanks to what Freud termed as 'resistance'. But the challenge of this adventure consists precisely in negotiating and transcending such resistance and making the thread of the story line continuous. Again, there are bound to be points of reluctance--episodes which I would not like to disclose in the public domain. I have had an acutely embarrassing experience through a post in another FB page--Research Topic Hunt--on Research for optimising the or****ic experience through Permutations and Combinations of Body Types and Mating Stances. My pubescent grand son had noted it and it was promptly reported to my better half through my daughter!
