The Department of Library and Information Science, Panjab University, in collaboration with DLIS, Central University of Himachal Pradesh, organized a webinar on “Enhancing Research Visibility and Use of ORCID” on 28 November 2025 at 2:00 p.m.
Hosted by Research Scholar Mayurakshi, the session featured a welcome address by Prof. Rupak Chakravarty and a keynote address by Prof. Shivarama Rao (CUHP).
Dr. Mohit Garg, Assistant Librarian, IIT Delhi, served as the resource person and shared valuable insights on researcher IDs, the significance of ORCID, and strategies to strengthen research identity and visibility.
The session concluded with an interactive Q&A and a vote of thanks by Dr. Shiv Kumar.

The Department of Library and Information Science, Panjab University Chandigarh celebrated Constitution Day on 27 November 2025, under the theme “Hamara Samvidhan, Hamara Swabhiman.” The event featured insightful contributions by faculty, research scholars, and students, including reflections on constitutional values, duties, justice, informed citizenship, women’s safety and empowerment.
The Preamble was read in both English and Hindi, followed by meaningful discussions led by Chairperson Prof. Rupak Chakravarty and other participants.

Department of Library and Information Science, Panjab University, Chandigarh, successfully conducted an Electoral Literacy Awareness Session on November 14, 2025, at 11:00 am.
The students of Bachelors and Masters of Library and Information Science along with the research scholars formed a human chain to raise awareness and encourage voting among young adults. The session aimed to enlighten students about the significance of voting and the pivotal role of the youth in democracy. The session was marked by a commendable turnout, including the professors as everyone participated enthusiastically. This initiative is expected to contribute to increase civic participation and informed decision-making in future elections.

The Department of Library and Information Science, Panjab University, Chandigarh, organised a pledge-taking ceremony on 7 November 2025 to initiate National Adoption Awareness Month.
Under the theme “Adoption of Children Having Special Needs,” faculty, research scholars, and students pledged to support lawful adoption and uphold the rights, dignity, and inclusion of children with special needs.
The ceremony highlighted the department’s ongoing commitment to promoting ethical adoption awareness and fostering a compassionate society.

The Department of Library and Information Science, Panjab University, Chandigarh, successfully organized a session on World Digital Preservation on 06th November, 2025 at 11:00 am in Lecture Hall-I.
The session was held under the theme “Why Preserve?”
Ms. Archana, M.Lib.I.Sc. student, formally introduced the event and highlighted the significance of digital preservation, its growing necessity, and major global initiatives in the field. Her address underscored the crucial role of library professionals in safeguarding digital records.
A documentary on "World Digital Preservation Day" by UN Manoa Hamilton Library was screened, providing participants with deeper insights into preservation practices, digital archiving, and the contribution of the Library of Congress to these efforts.
The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Mr. Shubham Mishra, Research Scholar, acknowledging the participation of students and faculty members.

Panjab University's 6th Global Alumni Meet 2025 programme was held at the Law Auditorium, Panjab University Chandigarh. The event was graced by Prof. Renu Vig, Vice Chancellor, as the Chief Guest.

The Department of Library and Information science formally honoured Dr. Neeza Singh and Prof. H. P. S. Kalra with citations and mementos in recognition of their contributions. Alumni from various departments reflected upon their association with the University and acknowledged its role in their professional growth.

Subsequently, the alumni of the department assembled in the Department Library, where Prof. Rupak Chakravarty, Chairperson, extended a formal welcome and engaged in an interactive session with them. The event concluded with high tea.

The Department of Library and Information Science, Panjab University, successfully conducted Vigilance Awareness Week from 27 October to 2 November 2025, featuring an Integrity Pledge, discussions on transparency, and a Slogan Writing Competition.
The competition was judged by Dr. Shivani Sharma, Professor in the Department of Philosophy and Coordinator at the Interdisciplinary Centre for Swami Vivekananda Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh.
The department congratulates the winners for the best slogans:
Ms. Kirti (B.Lib.I.Sc) secured first position,
Ms. Ekamveer Kaur (B.Lib.I.Sc) stood second and
Ms. Seetu (M.Lib.I.Sc) got third position.

The Department of Library & Information Science, Panjab University, Chandigarh organized an insightful Electoral Awareness Program on 30 October 2025.
Prof. Rupak Chakravarty highlighted the importance of electoral literacy, EVMs, VVPAT & transparent electoral processes.
The Department’s Electoral Literacy Club conducted a voter survey & facilitated registration of eligible students.

Interactive sessions, EVM demonstrations & ECI awareness films made the event highly engaging.

Every vote counts – let’s strengthen our democracy! 🗳️

On 30, October 2025, The Department of Library and Information Science, Panjab University, Chandigarh, successfully organized an awareness session on Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan under the theme “Burn the Drugs, Not Your Future”.
The session emphasized the significance of preventive awareness, self-discipline, and collective responsibility in creating a drug-free academic environment and a healthier society.
An oath against drug abuse was taken collectively by all students and faculty members.
