Weird space phenomena or biological? 🔭👁️🔬
These incredibly detailed images by Iris Photo reveal some of the unusual features in the most visually striking parts of our eyes - the iris. The iris pigment epithelium is only two cells thick but some eyes have multiple coloured epithelium while others are primarily one colour - the dense pigment stops light from entering the eye other than through the pupil.
Behind them lie the muscles that pull (or relax) the iris radially, crinkling the iris tissues, to enlarge (or reduce) our pupil size in response to light levels.
Some irises also develop freckles - just like face freckles, iris freckles are formed from clumps of pigmented cells on the surface and occur in about 60% of people.
