To mark the International Conservation Day of Mangrove Ecosystem (26-07-2026), the talented students from the Department of Geography at St. Xavier's College (Autonomous), Burdwan have mapped out the spatial changes of the Sundarban Region from 1995 to 2026.Their research and mapping reveal a critical environmental shift: our vital mangrove forests are rapidly being replaced by built-up areas and agricultural land, especially around Sagar Island.
As the West Bengal Tourism Department puts it, this wild terrain of tigers, saltwater crocodiles, and Gangetic dolphins is as thrilling as it is serene. Let's appreciate our students' hard work in bringing this data to light, and let's all do our part to save the Sundarbans!
