Building on XIMB’s uncompromising spirit of connecting business and society, Xavier University Bhubaneswar (XUB) has decided to respond to the global call to promote the cause of sustainability. The Xavier School of Sustainability (XSoS) is established in XUB to fulfil XUB’s social and environmental mission of bringing about transformation in our society. The school, being the first of its kind in India, is focused towards enabling the creation of sustainable businesses in India. It aims to create citizens who are dynamic, vibrant, but most importantly care deeply for all the stakeholders in a business – people, profits and the planet. Through this school we endeavor to create better leaders for a better world, better leaders for a sustainable world. This is a testimony and a testament to our commitment to join the global movement for protecting Earth’s systems and resources.

Mr. Ashok Menon, Global Technology Leader, Life Cycle Assessment, Corporate Sustainability, SABIC and Mr. Ravi Teja Pabbisetty, Scientist, Analytics & Ops, Corporate Sustainability, SABIC graced our campus on 25th February 2019. They spoke in lengths on SABIC, their 2025 strategy of embedding Sustainability, how future headlines in 2025 would comprise of 4D printing and low cost space tourism. Insights on plastic value chain, circular economy, life cycle assessment and its applications, and how sustainable is a moving target.
The question-answer experience was truly great.
We wholeheartedly thank Mr. Ashok Menon and Mr. Ravi Teja Pabbisetty for sharing their insightful thoughts with us.

We would like to Congratulate our Sustainability Development Programme interns Devina Das and Basanthy from Xavier School of Sustainability, Xavier University Bhubaneswar for getting placed at Ernst & Young and Envint.
Both the students did their internship with CHINAR in 2017 and got their selection through campus placement recently. We feel proud of both our sustainability ambassadors and wish them good luck for their bright future in the field of sustainability.

Students of Xaviers School of Sustainability (XSoS), Xavier University Bhubaneswar (Roma, Pallavi, Anamaya and Abhinav) presented their Sustainability Development Program work and experience (which they did with CHINAR) with their faculty and students on 1st of February 2019. A gallery was set up by the students at XSoS "Xavier School of Sustainability" and displayed products and posters of their respective work.

MBA-SM has been designed as an amalgamation of general business administration keeping in mind the ever-increasing need of sustainability in the business sector. The unique pedagogy covers the wide range of ideas pertaining to sustainability- from human development to renewable energy to policies that has been growing impetus.
The course started in 2015 and has seen 100% placement in 2018 with big names like ACC trust, Tata Motors, Vedanta, KPMG coming in for recruitment.
Sustainability Discovery Programme or SDP provided by the Xavier School of Sustainability, Xavier University Bhubaneswar helps students at equipping themselves with the ability to appreciate and analyse the initiatives undertaken for creating a sustainable world. It provides a great learning platform where students are able to develop a better understanding of the challenges in sustainability practices through interactions with the local communities and organisations working towards the same.
The students of the batch 2018-2020 this year visited states all over India including Odisha, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. Each student worked under different organisations and were assigned tasks ranging from micro-research to action project, to social auditing and CSR mapping.
Xavier School of Sustainability (XSoS), Xavier University, Bhubaneswar in collaboration with Human Development Foundation-Centre for Development Action & Research (HDFcDAR), Centre for Environment and Development (CED), Regional Centre for Development Cooperation (RCDC) and Regional Museum of Natural History (RMNH) Bhubaneswar organized the third edition of Children's Environment Congress on 21st December ’18, the theme for which was - 'Environment and Gandhi'.
The event was enlightened by the likes of Prof. Radhamohan (former RTI Commissioner Odisha), Shri Abasara Beuria (Retd. IFS, Former Indian Ambassador), and Dr. Seba Mahapatra (Former Director, DHS, Govt. of Odisha).
It witnessed children from various schools in and around Khurda participating in various competitions like essay writing, drawing, debate and singing.
It is not just a proud moment for CHINAR only, but also for Xavier School of Sustainability(XSoS), Xavier University, Bhubaneswar for having Mr. Pradeep Mehta, the Chairman of CHINAR, as a member of the Strategic Academic Advisory Board (SAAB) of XSoS, XUB. We are glad that a person of this repute, knowledge and experience will be assisting XSoS in developing the course curriculum.
We whole-heartedly welcome Mr. Mehta as a member of the family of XUB.
It is a proud moment for CHINAR as Chairman CHINAR Pradeep Mehta has been included in the Strategic Academic Advisory Board (SAAB) of Xavier School of Sustainability (XSoS), Xavier University Bhubaneswar. XSoS is ranked # 1 in India and # 85th globally in Sustainable Development Environment Management Education.

Xavier School of Sustainability (XSoS), Xavier University, Bhubaneswar organized the XUB Sustainability Summit on 17th November 2018 on the theme – “Mainstreaming Sustainability: Role of Education and Reporting" where we had panellists comprising leading industry experts, academicians and alumni associated with sustainability education talk about the transformal change that education can bring.
The event started with the lighting of the lamp by and in the presence of Mr. Anirban Ghosh, Chief Sustainability Officer, Mahindra, Fr. E.A. Augustine, Registrar, Xavier University, Mr. P.S. Narayan, Vice-President & Head- Sustainability, Wipro Limited and Prof. S Peppin, Dean, Xavier School of Sustainability.
Plenary 1 consisted of Mr. P. S. Narayan who acted as the moderator, Mr. Manikam Nagranjan, Mr. Vishal Bhavsar (Head Sustainability, UltraTech Cement (Aditya Birla Group), Mr. Debanjan Bandhopadhyay (Partner, ERM : Environmental Resources Management), Mr. Saunak Saha (Associate Partner, EY), Ms. Richa Pant (Head CSR, L&T Financial Services), Mr. Gyanesh Pathak (Head EHS, Bennett & Coleman, Times Group), Mr. Gaurav Sarup (Sustainability Lead, Vedanta Resources Limited).
Plenary 2 witnessed Prof Amar KJR Nayak, Nabard Chair Professor, Professor, General Management & Strategic Management of XIMB as the moderator and consisted of Ms. Anindita Mukherjee, Manager at CRY - Child Rights and You, Ms Arpita Bisht, Research Associate at TERI - The Energy and Resources Institute, Prof. Kulamani Parida, Professor in Chemistry and Director, Centre for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, ITER Soa University, Prof Pradipta Kumar Sahu, Associate Professor, Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology, Mr Kiran Radhakishnan, Associate assessor at DNV GL and Mr Aman Jain, Senior Consultant, EY. The topic was – Mainstreaming Sustainability Education.
Way Forward - Action Points was the topic of discussion of Plenary 3 which had the likes of Prof. S. Peppin as the moderator, Mr. Pratyush Panda (Vice President and Head CSR, ACC India), Mr. Christu Das (Director Projects, Holistic Rural Development, ESAF Small Finance Bank) and Dr. Pradeep Mehta Chairman, CHINAR.
In all, the XUB Sustainability Summit 2018 was a great success and an equally great learning experience for all present.

Recycling more plastics can help local businesses and expand jobs while supporting the goals of sustainability.
This is exactly what Mr. Amit Saha, the Founder and CEO of PRO India Recycling, talked about in detail in the Leadership Talk organized by XSoS, Xavier University, Bhubaneswar on 9th November 2018.
He gave insights into how the use of plastics is severely harming the environment, especially the ocean life, and how the increased use of recycled plastics can be much less harmful. In addition to this, Mr. Saha also spoke about the entire process of recycling plastics and the value chain associated with the same.
The question and answer session was truly engaging.
