Exactly 56 years ago today — April 11, 1970 — Apollo 13 lifted off. The timing of this post couldn't be more poignant.

What strikes me most about Apollo 13 is not the explosion, but what happened after it. The mission became a masterclass in something no training manual can fully capture: the refusal to accept defeat as the final answer. Jim Lovell, Fred Haise, and Jack Swigert — orbiting the Moon in a crippled spacecraft, rationing power, breathing recycled air, guided home by a team on the ground armed with nothing but slide rules, ingenuity, and sheer will.

The five lessons woven into the reflection — redundancy, creativity under constraint, clear communication, humility before circumstance, and practised calm — aren't relics of the Space Age. They live in every modern spacecraft design standard, every hospital emergency protocol, every crisis management framework. Apollo 13 didn't just survive; it became a curriculum.

And perhaps that is the most human thing of all: we take our hardest moments and turn them into the foundation for everything that comes next.

Why Are All Moon Craters Circular in Shape? | Astrophiles India 17/03/2026

Ever looked at the Moon and wondered, what are those scars all over its face?
Those aren’t just random dents. They’re time capsules… cosmic fingerprints of violent collisions that shaped not just the Moon, but the entire Solar System.
I recently explored this fascinating story in my latest article.
From tiny pits to gigantic basins stretching thousands of kilometers, lunar craters reveal:
🚀 The history of asteroid impacts
🪐 Clues about planetary evolution
🌌 And even hidden secrets about materials from space
Fun fact: Scientists believe that some craters may still contain remnants of the very asteroids that created them, like a cosmic crime scene frozen in time.
The Moon isn’t just beautiful… it’s a storyteller.
And every crater is a chapter waiting to be read.
If you love space, science, or just looking up at the night sky, this one’s for you.

Why Are All Moon Craters Circular in Shape? | Astrophiles India In this blog post, we’ll explore why moon craters are always circular and what fascinating science lies beneath this simple yet intriguing observation.

Last evening felt like a soft reminder of- WHY I DO WHAT I DO!

I had the absolute joy of delivering a cosmic storytelling session to a truly elite and curious bunch — the Young Leaders Club, a chapter of Bharat Storytellers. And wow… these minds were locked in.

We journeyed across the Solar System, not as tourists, but as curious humans asking “how did we even find these worlds?”
From the dramatic discoveries of Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto, to that mind-blown moment when they realised why the days of the week are named after planets — the room was buzzing with wonder.

But the real spark?
The stories of Wolf Cukier, Tom Wagg, Kartik Pinglé, and Jasmine Wright — youngsters who discovered exoplanets at an age when most of us were still figuring out homework deadlines.
Proof that curiosity doesn’t wait for permission. Age is just a number. The cosmos doesn’t gatekeep.

What I saw in those eyes was not just amazement — it was intent.
Intent to explore.
Intent to question.
Intent to become the torch bearers of future human endeavours.

As a cosmic storyteller, my heart was full. Grateful to the students, the ever-supportive parents, and Bharat Storytellers for inviting me into such a beautiful space of learning and imagination.

At astrophilesindia.in this is what we strive for every single time —
to blend science with story,
to replace fear with curiosity,
and to induce a cosmic perspective that makes life feel a little bigger, a little humbler, and a lot more meaningful.

The universe is vast.
Young minds exploring it? That’s where hope lives.

I still can’t believe I’m typing this…

Today, I received an email from Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson — the very person who shaped my journey as a science storyteller, a cosmic thinker, and a responsible human being.

For someone like me, who has spent years absorbing his ideas, learning from his voice, and shaping my worldview through his cosmic lens… this wasn’t just an email.
It was a moment of alignment.
A celestial event.
A dream bending reality.

And here’s the wildest part — I was literally reading his book Starry Messenger when the notification popped up.
Tell me that’s not the Universe winking.

Dr. Tyson’s teachings have been my compass.
He taught me that adopting a cosmic perspective isn’t just an intellectual exercise — it’s a way of living with humility, empathy, responsibility, and wonder.
It’s the one idea that reshaped me both as a student of astronomy and as a human being.

I genuinely believe half the world’s problems can dissolve if we all just learned to zoom out, breathe, and look at life with the vastness and calmness of the cosmos.

So when he wrote to appreciate my work…
When my hero acknowledged my little corner of science communication…
It hit me harder than any achievement ever has.
This wasn’t validation.
This was a blessing.

Thank you, Neil deGrasse Tyson — for the message, for the mentorship-from-afar, and for lighting paths you don't even realize you illuminate.

I promise to keep sharing the love, light, curiosity, and cosmic perspective you inspire in millions of us.

Tonight, the Universe feels a little smaller, a little kinder, and a lot more magical.

And I’m just here, humbled… and unbelievably grateful.

Dancing with the Universe: What Quantum Physics Taught Me About 'Action' | Astrophiles India 01/06/2025

🚀 New Article Out on our Website!
“Dancing with the Universe: What Quantum Physics Taught Me About 'Action’”
👇 Read it here: https://astrophilesindia.in/dancing-with-the-universe-what-quantum-physics-taught-me-about-action

We often think of action as something dramatic or physical. But in quantum physics, Action is what decides how reality unfolds. It's not just about mass, velocity, or distance—it’s about why particles choose one path over infinite others.

In this short piece, I explore:
🔸 What quantum 'action' really means
🔸 Why the universe behaves like a stingy but poetic storyteller
🔸 How we humans are beings of high action (in more ways than one!)

It’s fun, deep, and written for curious minds who like their physics with a side of storytelling. 🍿✨

Dancing with the Universe: What Quantum Physics Taught Me About 'Action' | Astrophiles India A deep dive into the quantum concept of 'Action'—how mass, velocity, and distance guide particles through all possible paths, shaping the reality we observe. Discover how this fundamental principle bridges the weirdness of quantum mechanics with the predictability of our everyday world.

AISECT Shodh Shikhar -Exploring India's Dinosaur Legacy 12/04/2025

Ever had a conversation that felt like time-travel? I just did—straight into the Jurassic world!

I had the absolute thrill of speaking with none other than Princess Aaliya Sultana Babi, the guardian of one of India’s best-kept secrets—the Balasinor Dinosaur Fossil Park in Gujarat. Yes, India has its own Jurassic Park, and she’s been the driving force behind it for over 30 years!

This conversation wasn’t just a podcast. It was a deep dive into India's prehistoric legacy—where science, history, and royalty meet over fossilized bones and ancient volcanic eruptions. We talked about:

🦖 How India’s own dinosaurs like Rajasaurus narmadensis roamed the lands of Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.
🥚 The discovery of dinosaur eggs, fossilized skeletons, and how this became a hotspot for paleontology.
🔥 And the fiery drama of the Deccan Traps, a volcanic rage that might’ve been the final curtain for the dino era.
📜 Most importantly, how Princess Aaliya turned what could have been just "a bunch of old rocks" into a story of science, conservation, and national pride.

This was part of the Shodh Shikhar event by Rabindranath Tagore University and AISECT—hats off to them for spotlighting such incredible science stories.

If you think dinosaurs are just Hollywood material—this chat will change your mind. India’s past is roaring, literally.

Humanity Just Witnessed an Eclipse… from the Moon! 🌑✨

For the first time ever, we’ve captured a solar eclipse as seen from the lunar surface! The Blue Ghost Mission 1 lander has given us this breathtaking view from Mare Crisium:

🔵 The Earth casts its shadow over the Sun, forming a perfect dark disk.
💎 A stunning diamond ring effect glows at the five o’clock position.
☀️ The Sun’s corona flares out, a ghostly halo in the vastness of space.

This isn’t just an eclipse—it’s a new perspective on our place in the cosmos. From Earth, we see the Moon eclipse the Sun. From the Moon, we see Earth doing the same. The universe is all about perspective.

What’s next? Capturing an eclipse from Mars? 🔴
