Doctor's Day in India on 1st July not only commemorates Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy, a distinguished physician, educator, freedom fighter and former Chief Minister of West Bengal; but also serves as a reminder of the essential role doctors play in society. It highlights the importance of medical professionals in maintaining public health and encourages communities to support and appreciate their efforts.Bidhan Chandra Roy played a pivotal role in establishing institutions such as the Indian Medical Association and the Medical Council of India. Dr. Roy's dedication to the medical profession and his work in public health earned him the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian award, in 1961.
