When a whale dies in the ocean, its body does not simply disappear beneath the waves.
Instead, it slowly sinks to the ocean floor, reaching depths where sunlight never exists and pressure is extremely high.
In these deep environments, food is incredibly scarce, and most creatures struggle to survive on very limited resources.
But a single whale fall changes everything, creating a sudden and massive source of nutrients in an otherwise empty ecosystem.
Over time, different species arrive to feed, from large scavengers to tiny organisms, each playing a role in breaking down the body.
Even after the flesh is gone, the bones continue to support life for years, showing how one event can sustain an entire chain of survival in the deep ocean.
