​While India became a Republic on January 26, 1950 (Republic Day), the Constitution was actually formally adopted by the Constituent Assembly two months earlier, on November 26, 1949.
​The origin: The Government of India declared November 26 as Constitution Day in 2015 to honor Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s 125th birth anniversary and to encourage citizens to understand their constitutional rights and duties.
​2. Theme for 2025: "Hamara Samvidhan, Hamara Swabhiman"
​The theme for this year's celebration is "Our Constitution, Our Pride."
​Focus: The campaign aims to deepen legal literacy and instill a sense of pride in the Constitution among citizens.
​Key Event: A major function is held at the Central Hall of Samvidhan Sadan (Old Parliament Building) in New Delhi, where the President of India leads the nation in reading the Preamble.
​3. How is it celebrated?
​Unlike Republic Day, which involves military parades, Constitution Day is an intellectual and cultural observance.
​Preamble Reading: At 11:00 AM today, government offices, schools, and institutions across India read the Preamble aloud.
​Digital Initiatives: The government releases translations of the Constitution in regional languages (like Sanskrit, Maithili, etc.) to make it more accessible.
​Schools & Colleges: Students participate in quizzes, debates on the Fundamental Duties, and essay competitions about the making of the Constitution.
​4. Key Facts to Know Today
​Time Taken: It took 2 years, 11 months, and 17 days to draft the Constitution.
​Handwritten: The original Constitution was not printed; it was handwritten in both Hindi and English by calligrapher Prem Behari Narain Raizada.
​World's Longest: It is the longest written constitution of any sovereign country in the world.
