What is YTD?
Year-to-date (YTD) calculation is a financial metric that compares the current performance of a company, investment or any other metric for a specific period of time (usually from the beginning of the current year) to the same period in the previous year. This calculation is used to evaluate the progress or growth of a company or investment over time.
In Tableau, year-to-date calculations can be used to compare the current year's performance to the same period in the previous year. This can be done by creating a calculated field that compares the current year's data to the data from the same period in the previous year. This calculated field can then be used in visualizations to compare the two periods and identify trends or changes in the data.
For example, a company wants to compare the sales of the current year with the sales of the last year. A YTD calculation would be used to compare the sales from January to the current month of the current year with the same period of the previous year. This will give an idea of the company's sales growth over time.
