Breaking: US-Iran Nuclear Talks Begin in Switzerland
White House envoy Steve Witkoff is heading to Switzerland as the first round of US-Iran nuclear negotiations gets underway. Jared Kushner is already on the ground, and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is expected to travel there today.
The 60-day negotiation clock has officially started after both sides signed a deal to end the conflict and reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
A key development clearing the path: Israel and Hezbollah agreed to a ceasefire yesterday, after Iran had signaled that a stop to fighting in Lebanon was a "make or break" condition for the talks. Qatar's Prime Minister is also in Switzerland, playing a key mediator role between Washington and Tehran.
Oil markets are already responding — Brent crude is on track for an 8% weekly drop.
VP JD Vance, who was expected to join the talks, has cancelled his trip for now.
