Hon'ble Chief Minister Visits Gujjar & Bakarwal Boys Hostel Bandipora, Dedicates Mobility Van to Students
Bandipora, June 17: Hon'ble Chief Minister, Jammu & Kashmir, Jenab Omar Abdullah today visited the Gujjar & Bakarwal Boys Hostel, Bandipora, and dedicated a Mobility Van for the benefit of the hostel inmates, reaffirming the Government's commitment towards the educational empowerment and welfare of tribal students.
The Hon'ble Chief Minister was accompanied by Hon'ble Deputy Chief Minister Shri Surinder Choudhary, Hon'ble Minister for Agriculture Production, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Shri Javid Ahmad Dar, Hon'ble MLA Bandipora Shri Nizam Ud Din Bhat, Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Ms. Indu Kanwal Chib, and other senior officers of the district administration.
During the visit, the Hon'ble Chief Minister interacted with the staff and reviewed the facilities available at the hostel. He inspected the academic, residential, recreational, and support infrastructure established for the welfare and holistic development of the inmates. The staff briefed the dignitaries about their educational pursuits, achievements, and daily activities.
The Hon'ble Chief Minister appreciated the overall functioning of the hostel and commended the efforts of the management and district administration in providing a conducive environment for quality education and personality development of students belonging to the Gujjar and Bakarwal communities.
The newly dedicated Mobility Van is expected to significantly enhance transportation facilities for the students, enabling their participation in educational tours, sports events, cultural programmes, career guidance initiatives, and other urgent mobility needs.
Speaking on the occasion, the dignitaries reiterated the Government's commitment towards strengthening educational infrastructure and creating greater opportunities for students from tribal and other marginalized communities. They emphasized that quality education remains the most effective instrument for social and economic empowerment.
The hostel management and students expressed their gratitude to the Hon'ble Chief Minister and other dignitaries for their visit, encouragement, and continued support towards the welfare and educational advancement of tribal students in the district.

*Learning Beyond Classrooms: G&B Hostel Students Explore Waqar Knowledge Centre Bandipora*
Bandipora, June 13: Students of the Gujjar and Bakarwal Hostel Bandipora on Saturday visited the Waqar Knowledge Centre Mini Secretariat Bandipora as part of an exposure tour aimed at encouraging interactive learning, dialogue, and greater awareness about educational and developmental opportunities available to the youth.
Programme Officer ICDS Bandipora, Yaar Ali Khan, interacted with the students and highlighted the importance of awareness, continuous learning, and positive community engagement in shaping responsible and confident youth. He encouraged the students to actively participate in educational and developmental initiatives and make constructive use of platforms like the Waqar Knowledge Centre for their personal growth and future aspirations.
District Information Officer Bandipora, Aadil Manzoor Wani; Block Development Officer Aloosa, Ulfat Ali; and other officials were present on the occasion and interacted with the students during the exposure visit.
During the visit, officials and staff members associated with the Waqar Knowledge Centre interacted with the students and highlighted the broader vision behind the facility as a shared learning and community space designed to promote awareness, guidance, innovation, and constructive engagement among young people.
The students were introduced to the various activities and initiatives being conducted at the Waqar Knowledge Centre, particularly those focusing on youth empowerment, career awareness, public participation, and social issues affecting society. Mega Mental Health cm De-Addiction Awareness Programme Held at GB Boys Hostel Bandipora
Bandipora, May 22: In a significant initiative aimed at promoting mental well-being and spreading awareness against the growing menace of substance abuse, a Mega Mental Health cm De-Addiction Awareness Programme was organized by the District Drug De-Addiction Centre (DDAC), Bandipora, in collaboration with Gujjar & Bakerwal Boys Hostel Bandipora, at the Auditorium Hall of GB Boys Hostel, Bandipora. The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from more than 80 students, who actively engaged in the awareness session.
The event was graced by Mr. Gh Mohammad Lone, Ex-Chief Education Officer, as the Chief Guest, while Mr. Bashir Ahmad, Warden, GB Hostel Bandipora, attended as the Guest of Honour. The programme also featured valuable awareness sessions delivered by officials from DDAC Bandipora and students of the hostel.
The proceedings of the event were conducted through melodious and informative anchoring by Mr. Altaf Ahmad, Teacher, who skillfully engaged the audience and maintained the spirit of the programme throughout.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Guest Mr. Gh Mohammad Lone, Ex-CEO, emphasized the urgent need for collective responsibility in safeguarding the younger generation from the harmful effects of drug abuse and mental health challenges. He highlighted that youth represent the backbone of society and must channelize their energy towards education, character-building, and constructive social engagement.
Addressing the gathering, Guest of Honour Mr. Bashir Ahmad, Warden, GB Hostel Bandipora, underscored the importance of creating a healthy, disciplined, and supportive environment for students. He stated that hostels and educational institutions must act as safe spaces where students can openly discuss stress, peer pressure, and emotional concerns.
During the awareness session, Mr. Jawhar Ahmad, ORW, DDAC Bandipora, delivered an impactful address focusing on mental health, substance abuse prevention, and the role of youth in building a drug-free society. He sensitized students regarding the physical, psychological, social, and economic consequences of addiction and urged them to adopt healthy coping mechanisms for stress and emotional challenges. He also highlighted the services available at DDAC Bandipora, emphasizing early intervention, counseling, and rehabilitation support.
Mr. Aamir Sajad, Supervisor, DDAC Bandipora, also spoke on the occasion and elaborated on the harmful impact of drugs on individuals, families, and communities. He encouraged students to become ambassadors of awareness and actively contribute to creating a drug-free and mentally healthy society.
The programme also featured insightful participation from students, including Mr. Munawar Turk and Mr. Waseem Paswal, who shared their views on the importance of mental health awareness and the need for youth to stay away from addiction while focusing on education and personal growth.
The programme concluded with an interactive CPLI session where students actively participated by raising questions and sharing their perspectives. The event was widely appreciated by participants, faculty, and dignitaries, who hailed the initiative by the organisers as a timely and impactful step toward strengthening mental health awareness and preventing substance abuse among youth in the district. *Mushaira on Drug Abuse Awareness Held at Gujjar & Bakarwal Boys Hostel Bandipora*
Bandipora, May 2026:
As part of the activities being organized under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan-2026, a Mushaira (Poetry Recitation Session) was held at Gujjar & Bakarwal Boys Hostel, Bandipora.
Ten inmates of the hostel enthusiastically participated in the session and recited beautiful poetry highlighting the negative impacts of drug abuse on individuals and society. The participants also presented poetic reflections on life, hope, discipline, and the importance of making positive choices.
The programme was moderated by Mr Altaf Ahmad Mir, Tutor.
The Mushaira provided a meaningful platform for students to express their thoughts creatively and spread awareness against the menace of drug addiction through literature and poetry.
The programme was attended by the Warden Mr. Bashir Ahmad Khan and other hostel staff members, who appreciated the students for their literary talent, confidence, and active participation in the awareness initiative. *Debate Session on Drug Abuse Held at Gujjar & Bakarwal Boys Hostel Bandipora*

As part of the activities being organized under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan-2026, a debate session on the topic of drug abuse was held at Gujjar & Bakarwal Boys Hostel, Bandipora.
The inmates of the hostel enthusiastically participated in the debate and highlighted the harmful effects of drug abuse on individuals, families, and society. The participants also deliberated upon various ways and means to stay away from drugs and emphasized the importance of awareness, discipline, and positive engagement among youth.
The students who participated in the debate included Waseem Poswal, Munawar Ahmad , Wasim Ahmad Chachi , Yasir khatana, and Ajmal Hussain.
The session was moderated by Mr. Altaf Ahmad Mir, Tutor. The programme was organized under the supervision of Warden Mr. Bashir Ahmad Khan and was attended by Mr. Munawar Lone, Assistant Warden, along with other staff members of the hostel.

As part of the ongoing awareness campaign against drug abuse, the inmates of Gujjar & Bakarwal Boys Hostel, Bandipora today organized an Anti-Drug Abuse Awareness Rally from the hostel premises to the nearby village locality of Watpora.
The rally witnessed enthusiastic participation of hostel inmates carrying playcards and raising slogans like “Say No To Drugs, Say Yes To Life”, “Drug Free Youth, Bright Future”, and “Choose Health, Not Drugs” to spread awareness regarding the harmful effects of substance abuse among youth and society.
The programme was attended by the Warden, Assistant Warden and other staff members of the hostel, who appreciated the active participation of students and emphasized the importance of collective efforts in combating the menace of drug abuse.
The rally received positive response and appreciation from the local residents and reflected the commitment of the institution towards promoting a healthy, aware, and drug-free society.

During the session, the Deputy Commissioner welcomed open questions from students and spoke at length on career pathways, leadership, and ethics, drawing from her own academic and professional journey to inspire young minds to pursue their aspirations with dedication and integrity.
The DC underscored the importance of balancing sports and physical activity with academics for holistic development, and stressed the need for regular mental health sessions within the hostel to nurture students’ overall well-being.
On the occasion, 13 meritorious students were felicitated for their outstanding performance in the recently concluded Annual Examinations.
