Poster Campaign on National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme

On 14 September 2026, the Students’ Welfare Committee and Students’ Council of HKM Government Degree College Bandipora organised a Poster Campaign to create awareness regarding the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS) under the guidance of Prof. Bilquees Rasool War.

The campaign aimed to familiarise students with the opportunities available under the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme and to highlight the importance of apprenticeship-based learning in enhancing employability and practical skills. Students prepared and displayed informative posters highlighting various aspects of apprenticeship opportunities, skill development, workplace exposure, and the benefits of gaining practical experience alongside academic education.

The campaign witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, who used creative and informative messages to encourage their peers to explore apprenticeship opportunities. The activity also reinforced the college’s efforts towards career awareness, skill development and employment-oriented education among students

Khelo India Samvaad – Khel Ki Baat PM Ke Saath”

HKM Degree College Bandipora made necessary arrangements to facilitate the live online address of the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, under “Khelo India Samvaad – Khel Ki Baat PM Ke Saath”, an initiative of MY Bharat, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, in collaboration with the NSS Units of the College, under the able guidance of the worthy Principal, Prof. Suresh Kumar Dogra. The arrangements made by the College enabled students, NSS volunteers and MY Bharat volunteers to listen to the powerful live online address of the Hon’ble Prime Minister. During his interaction, the Prime Minister encouraged the youth to identify and work towards those 50 per cent categories of Olympic sports in which India is currently not participating, emphasising the need to broaden India’s sporting participation and nurture talent in diverse sporting disciplines. His address inspired the students to view sports as an avenue for physical fitness, discipline, excellence, confidence and nation-building. The programme was attended by MY Bharat volunteers, NSS volunteers, college faculty members and students. Ms. Sabahat Aafreen, a sportsperson and former student of the College, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Her presence added particular significance to the programme, as she represented the inspiring sporting journey of a young woman from the region.

A team of MY Bharat volunteers from the district interacted with Ms. Sabahat Aafreen and discussed her experiences and journey in sports. The students also interacted with her enthusiastically and sought to learn about her challenges, achievements, training, motivation and experiences as an athlete. Her interaction with the students encouraged them to pursue their interests in sports with dedication, perseverance and self-belief. Prof. Tariq Ahmad Bhat, HOD History, along with other senior faculty members, appreciated and praised Ms. Sabahat Aafreen for her achievements and for bringing recognition to her alma mater. In recognition of her inspiring sporting journey and contribution, the College honoured her with a memento. The facilitation of the Prime Minister’s address, along with the interaction with an accomplished former student, made the programme meaningful and motivational for the students and young volunteers. The event reinforced the importance of sports, fitness, discipline and active youth participation in nation-building, while inspiring the younger generation to explore and excel in diverse sporting disciplines.

Cyber Awareness Session

The Library Committee, HKM Government Degree College Bandipora, organized a Cyber Awareness Session on 20 August 2026 under the guidance of the Principal, Prof. Suresh Kumar Dogra, in compliance with the directions issued by the Directorate of Samagra Shiksha, J&K, and the District Administration, Bandipora.

The session was conducted by Dr. Tariq Ahmad Shah, Librarian, HKM GDC Bandipora, who sensitized students about various aspects of cybersecurity and responsible digital behaviour. Using the prescribed awareness material, he discussed common cyber threats, online safety practices, protection of personal information, secure passwords, phishing and other forms of cyber fraud. Students were also encouraged to exercise caution while using social media, digital platforms and online services.

The session aimed to enhance students’ awareness of emerging cyber threats and equip them with basic knowledge and practical measures for maintaining safety and security in the digital environment.

The programme concluded with an interactive discussion, during which students raised questions and sought clarifications regarding online safety and cybersecurity. The session was found useful in promoting responsible and secure use of digital technologies among the students.

Counseling-cum-Interactive Session on Udyam Jagriti Mission Yuva 5.0

The HKM Government Degree College Bandipora, in collaboration with the District EDI Mission Yuva Wing, organized a counseling-cum-interactive session on Udyam Jagriti Mission Yuva 5.0 on 17 August 2026 at the college.

The session aimed to acquaint students with the opportunities available under the Mission and encourage them to develop innovative and region-specific entrepreneurial ideas. Dr. Mubashir Hamid Mir, HoD Physics, welcomed the participants and introduced the visiting team from the District EDI Department.

Mr. Mir Adnan, Coordinator, Mission Yuva, District Bandipora, delivered a detailed and informative lecture on the process of pitching innovative ideas under the Mission. He explained that promising ideas would be shortlisted for consideration by the government and selected proposals could receive financial support for their implementation. He emphasized that the proposed ideas should have relevance to the local economy and specifically pertain to three key sectors of the region—agriculture, tourism and handicrafts.

The lecture was followed by an interactive session during which students actively engaged with the resource person, sought clarifications and discussed various entrepreneurial possibilities in the identified sectors. The session provided students with valuable guidance on converting innovative ideas into viable entrepreneurial ventures.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Prof. Shahid Shafi, HoD Economics, who expressed gratitude to the District EDI Mission Yuva team for conducting the informative and engaging session and for providing students with an opportunity to explore avenues of entrepreneurship and self-employment.

Inter-College Competitions
Celebrating the Spirit of Independence and Youth Participation
Under the flagship of the celebrations leading up to the 80th Independence Day and under the able guidance of Prof. Suresh Kumar Dogra, Principal, HKM Government Degree College, Bandipora, a series of inter-college competitions were organised on 11 August 2026 at the college. The programme was jointly organised by the NSS Units, Debates and Seminar Committee, NCC Cadets, and Department of History with the objective of fostering patriotism, creativity, intellectual engagement, and healthy competitive spirit among students. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students of GDC Ajas, GDC Sumbal, and the host institution, HKM Government Degree College, Bandipora. Competitions were conducted in diverse categories, including National Anthem Solo, National Anthem Group, Essay Writing, Painting, Seminar, and Quiz. The participation of students from different colleges provided a vibrant platform for interaction, exchange of ideas, and celebration of the values associated with the nation's independence. At the outset, Dr. Mubashir Hamid Mir, Senior Faculty Member and Head, Department of Physics, delivered the welcome address. He warmly welcomed the participating students, faculty members, judges, and guests and highlighted the significance of organising such inter-college activities in nurturing talent, patriotism, confidence, and a sense of national responsibility among students.The successful conduct of the programme was facilitated by the dedicated efforts of Prof. Bilquees Rasool War, Convener, Debates and Seminar Committee; Dr. Wasia Hamid, NSS Programme Officer; Prof. Sadaf Shafi; Prof. Shahid; and Dr. Idrees Fayaz Harry, who played important roles in coordinating and managing the various competitions. The competitions were adjudicated by faculty members from the participating colleges, ensuring a fair, transparent, and objective assessment of the performances and entries. Role of J&K Youth in Making Viksit Bharat @2047
As part of the activities organized in the run-up to the celebration of the 80th Independence Day, the NSS Units, in collaboration with the Debates and Seminar Committee, organized a seminar on the theme “Role of J&K Youth in Making Viksit Bharat @2047” on 8 August 2026.
Conducted under the able guidance of the college Principal, Prof. Suresh Kumar Dogra, the seminar aimed to provide students with a platform to reflect upon and articulate their views on the role of the youth of Jammu and Kashmir in contributing to the vision of a developed and self-reliant India by 2047. The event highlighted the importance of youth participation in nation-building, education, innovation, entrepreneurship, social responsibility, and democratic engagement.
A total of six participants took part in the seminar and presented their views on the theme. The participants demonstrated enthusiasm, awareness, and a thoughtful understanding of the responsibilities and opportunities before the youth in shaping the future of the nation. The presentations also emphasized the potential of J&K youth to contribute meaningfully to the social, economic, educational, and technological development of the country.
The proceedings were evaluated by a jury comprising Prof. Bilquees Rasool War, Convener, Debates and Seminar Committee; Prof. Sadaf Shafi, Assistant Programme Officer, NSS; and Dr. Idrees Fayaz Harry, Assistant Programme Officer, NSS. After assessing the participants on the basis of their content, clarity, presentation, relevance to the theme, and overall delivery, Zeeshan Aijaz of 5th Semester was declared the winner.

Essay Writing Competition

Role of Education in Promoting Peace and National Unity

As part of the activities organised in the run-up to the celebration of the 80th Independence Day, an Essay Writing Competition on the theme “Role of Education in Promoting Peace and National Unity” was organised on 8 August 2026 by the NSS Units, in collaboration with the Debates and Seminar Committee, under the guidance of the Principal, Prof. Suresh Kumar Dogra. The competition aimed to provide students with an opportunity to reflect on the transformative role of education in fostering peace, harmony, social cohesion, and national unity. The theme encouraged participants to explore how education can promote mutual understanding, tolerance, responsible citizenship, and respect for diversity, thereby contributing to the strengthening of the nation. A total of three participants took part in the competition. The participants expressed their views on the theme through well-structured essays, highlighting the significance of education in creating an informed, responsible, and socially conscious citizenry. The competition provided a meaningful platform for students to engage critically with issues of peace and national integration. The entries were evaluated by a jury comprising Prof. Bilquees Rasool War, Convener, Debates and Seminar Committee, and Dr. Ghulam Mohammad Khan, Faculty of English. After evaluation of the essays on the basis of content, relevance to the theme, clarity of expression, organisation, and originality of ideas, Mir Hadi of 5th Semester was declared the winner. The programme was moderated by Dr. Wasia Hamid, NSS Programme Officer, who coordinated the proceedings and facilitated the smooth conduct of the event.

HKM GDC Bandipora Organises Awareness Session on "Udyam Jagriti 5.0: The First Step Towards Entrepreneurship"

HKM Government Degree College, Bandipora, under the visionary guidance of its Principal, Prof. Suresh Kumar Dogra, organised a comprehensive awareness session on "Udyam Jagriti 5.0: The First Step Towards Entrepreneurship" on 14 July 2026. The programme was aimed at fostering entrepreneurial thinking among students, promoting innovation, and encouraging young minds to explore self-employment and startup opportunities under the Government's flagship initiatives.

The session witnessed enthusiastic participation from a large number of students from various semesters and disciplines, reflecting their keen interest in entrepreneurship and innovation. The event served as an important platform to acquaint students with the growing startup ecosystem in Jammu and Kashmir and the various government schemes designed to support aspiring entrepreneurs. The technical sessions featured detailed and informative lectures by distinguished faculty members and institutional coordinators, each addressing different dimensions of entrepreneurship and startup development.

Dr. Mubashir Hamid, Coordinator, Innovation and Incubation Cell, delivered an insightful presentation on innovation-driven entrepreneurship. He elaborated on the objectives of Udyam Jagriti 5.0, explaining how the initiative seeks to nurture innovative ideas among students and provide them with institutional mentoring and incubation support. He emphasised the significance of identifying practical solutions to real-world problems and encouraged students to cultivate an entrepreneurial mindset rooted in creativity, research, and technological innovation.

Dr. Wasia Hamid, Coordinator, Career Counselling and Placement Cell, focused on entrepreneurship as a viable and rewarding career option. She explained the changing employment landscape and stressed that entrepreneurship offers immense opportunities for personal growth, economic independence, and community development. She familiarised students with various government support mechanisms, skill-development programmes, financial assistance schemes, and mentoring opportunities available for aspiring entrepreneurs. Her interaction motivated students to view startups as a promising career pathway rather than merely an alternative to traditional employment.

Prof. Shahid Shafi, Nodal Officer, Mission YUVA, delivered a comprehensive lecture on the objectives and implementation framework of Mission YUVA. He explained the various financial incentives, mentoring mechanisms, capacity-building programmes, and institutional support available under the initiative. He informed students that innovative startup proposals would undergo evaluation, with the best four ideas from the district being selected for financial support and funding by the Government, thereby transforming promising concepts into sustainable entrepreneurial ventures. He encouraged students to identify local resources, address societal challenges through innovative solutions, and actively participate in the programme.

Adding an academic and interdisciplinary perspective, Dr. Mehrajuddin Talie, Head, Department of Botany, highlighted the immense entrepreneurial potential in sectors such as agriculture, horticulture, medicinal and aromatic plants, biodiversity conservation, environmental sustainability, organic farming, and allied biological sciences. He encouraged students to explore innovative business opportunities based on the rich natural resources and biodiversity of Jammu and Kashmir, emphasising that scientific knowledge can be effectively translated into commercially viable enterprises that contribute to sustainable development. An interactive question-and-answer session followed the lectures, during which students actively engaged with the resource persons by seeking clarification on startup registration procedures, funding mechanisms, business planning, market feasibility, intellectual property, and government support schemes. The speakers responded comprehensively, providing practical guidance and motivating students to convert their innovative ideas into successful enterprises. Prof. Irfan Ahmad Wagay presented a formal vote of thanks.
